Capital One extended warranty

All Capital One credit cards in Canada come with this perk.

Capital One’s extended warranty can offer you peace of mind when you make purchases with your eligible credit card. Taking advantage of this feature means you can get a warranty that exceeds the warranty offered by a manufacturer on eligible purchases.

Does Capital One offer extended warranties?

Yes. Capital One offers extended warranties as a benefit with all of its Canadian credit cards. The information in this guide covers the Mastercard policies offered by Capital One in Canada. However, details in your specific policy might vary, which you can confirm in your card’s guide to benefits.

How to use Capital One extended warranties

Here’s how to qualify for Capital One extended warranties:

  1. If you have a Capital One Mastercard, you must make the entire purchase with that card. Mastercard terms say you must make the entire purchase with your card or the rewards you’ve accumulated with that card.
  2. In the event of product failure, call your benefit administrator at 1-888-324-2363. The representative will send you the applicable claim form. You’ll need to provide proof of loss of damage within 90 days.
  3. Submit your claim form along with additional documentation your benefit administrator might require. Your benefit administrator should inform you of the submission deadline. If not, you can find it in your card’s guide to benefits.

Additional information to submit with your claim form

Additional documentation typically includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • The receipt for your purchase.
  • Your credit card statement showing you made the purchase with your card.
  • A copy of the original manufacturer’s warranty.
  • A repair order or estimate.

Capital One extended warranty policy

Your Mastercard policy doubles an eligible item’s original warranty, up to 24 months, on most purchases. There is a maximum lifetime liability of $60,000 per account.

Watch out for ineligible purchases

Unfortunately, not every purchase is eligible for an extended warranty. Here are a few examples of ineligible items:

  • Motorized vehicles
  • Used items
  • Software
  • Exclusions listed in the original warranty
  • Items you buy for commercial use

For a full list of exclusions, consult your card’s guide to benefits.

Bottom line

You’ll find extended warranties with all Capital One credit cards offered in Canada. This benefit can really come in handy, and it costs nothing extra to use.

However, if a Capital One card doesn’t fit your needs, consider other cards that offer extended warranties.
