You can now send money in cell phone messages using Apple Pay Cash
Apple Pay Cash doesn’t require an app to work, you can add to or use the cards already stored in your Wallet.
Apple Pay Cash, Apple’s peer-to-peer payments service, has arrived in the latest iOS update, allowing users to pay people via their cell phone’s messaging service and make purchases in stores, in apps and online.
The function was originally made available in the Apple Beta Software Program on November 10. Apple Pay Cash doesn’t require an app to work, you can add to or use the cards already stored in your Apple Wallet. However, you will need to download and upgrade to Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 11.2.
To send and receive money with Apple Pay, you’ll need to be at least 18 years old and a resident of the United States. You’ll also need two-factor authentication for your Apple ID, so be sure you sign in to iCloud and iMessage with the same Apple ID on any device that you want to use to send or receive money.
Obviously, you’ll need to have enough money on your Apple Pay Cash card or eligible debit or credit card in your Wallet to make transactions. Additionally, you’ll need to, only once, agree to the terms and conditions.
How to send money using an iPhone
Sending money is simple. In Messages, start a new conversation or tap an existing one. Tap the “A” symbol, then tap the Apple Pay icon. Select an amount by tapping “minus” or “plus” or type an amount on your keypad.
Once you’re happy with the amount, tap “Pay”. If you want, you can add a message to go with the payment.
Tap “Send” and a review payment information screen will appear. The money stored in your Apple Pay Cash account will be used first to make any payments. If you don’t have enough balance for the payment, the remainder will come from one of your credit or debit cards in Wallet.
If you have no Apple Pay Cash, you can use a credit or debit card in Wallet for the entire payment. You can decide which card to use on the confirmation screen or you can split a payment between cards if you prefer.
To send the payment, confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
Additionally, if you choose to use a credit card, there will be a 3% credit card fee added to the total amount funded by the credit card. You can also transfer your Apple Pay Cash balance to your bank account.
Siri can also help you make these payments at your request. Apple suggests you just say something like, “Apple Pay 25 dollars to Jane for movie tickets” or “Send 25 dollars to Jane”.
How to send money using an Apple Watch
It’s a similar process. You’ll need watchOS 4.2. In Messages, start a new conversation or tap an existing one. Scroll down, then tap the “Apple Pay” symbol. To choose an amount, turn the Digital Crown. To enter an exact amount, tap the dollar amount, tap after the decimal, then turn the Digital Crown. After this, just tap “Pay”. To review payment information or cancel a transaction, scroll down. To send, double-click the side button.
What if I need to cancel a payment after sending?
If you’ve sent money and the receiver hasn’t already accepted payment, you can cancel the transaction. You simply have to open Messages and find the payment. You can search for the payment in transaction history.
Tap the payment to see its details, then check the Status field. Tap “Cancel Payment”. This will update the Status field to say canceled. If you don’t see any option to cancel, this means the payment has been accepted.
If you reject or cancel a payment, money will be refunded by the next business day depending on your bank.
If you wish to dispute a transaction, contact Apple. Apple Pay person to person payments are just like any other private transaction between people. If you sent cash to the wrong person, cancel or ask for the money back.
How to request money from friends
This option is great if someone owes you money after a night out on the town, for a shared cab fare or a joint birthday gift. Open a conversation in Messages. Tap the “A” symbol, then tap the Apple Pay icon. Select an amount, then tap “Request”. If you want, add a message to go with the request. To send, tap the “Up” symbol. When the recipient gets your request, they can change or confirm the amount they want to send and tap “Pay”.
How to accept payments
The first time that you use Apple Pay Cash, you have seven days to accept the money that you have been sent.
If someone send you money, it’ll automatically be received and kept in your Apple Pay Cash account. You can use this money immediately to send cash to another person, spend it or transfer it to your bank account.
If you don’t want to automatically accept payments, you can change this setting. Open your Wallet app, tap your Apply Pay Cash card and tap the “information” symbol. Tap the “Info” tab and tap “Manually Accept Payments.” The next time someone sends you money, you’ll have seven days to tap “Accept” on the payment.
