History of World of Women Collection

The World of Women NFT collection was created by a real-life couple: Turkish artist Yam Karkai and French tech guru Raphaël Malavieille. They created the collection to showcase a range of cool, contemporary and diverse women and to bring a much-needed feminine perspective to the world of crypto. The collection of 10,000 individual NFTs was launched in July 2021 and was a sensation, selling out overnight – but some are available on the secondary market. Celebrity interest in part explains the popularity, with tweets in support of the sale from Farokh, Steve Aoki, Logan Paul and Gary Vee, CEO of VaynerMedia. The tokens were initially on sale for 0.07 ETH but can trade for up to US$300,000.

How to buy on OpenSea

The all-time average price of World of Women is 2.133 ETH ($5,164), so expect to pay around that cost to secure an NFT in the collection:
  1. Fund your wallet with cryptocurrency to buy your NFT.
Most NFTs on OpenSea are bought and sold using Ether, the native crypto on the Ethereum blockchain. Make sure you have enough ETH in your wallet to cover the cost of the NFT and any related fees, like gas. If you're a bit short, compare ways to buy ETH to reload your wallet.
  2. Find your NFT on OpenSea
OpenSea has hundreds of thousands of NFTs listed, so consider looking through collections to help narrow down the selection. If you're after an NFT from the collection, we've listed some on this page for your convenience.
  3. Transfer ETH to a web3 wallet
MetaMask is a popular web3 wallet option, and our guide on MetaMask has detailed instructions on how to make the transfer.
  4. Buy your NFT
When you're ready to make your purchase, click the "Buy Now" button on the specific NFT you're interested in. OpenSea will show you the total cost, including fees, and after purchasing be sure to approve the transaction in your MetaMask wallet.

Evaluating World of Women Collection

Crypto isn't a space known for its diversity, so the World of Women collection was seen as a welcome breath of fresh air when it dropped and should hopefully act as an inspiration to bring a broader range of voices into play. Here’s what you need to know, including information on the 3 “clubs” some of the tokens are a part of:

Holders of a token are entitled to 50% of the royalties from any commercial use of the image by the creators – and the owners have the right to use the image commercially if they wish.

15% of the proceeds from all primary sales will be reinvested in crypto art.

Tokens in the Royalties Club receive a share of 50% of the royalties earned from secondary sales of the tokens. At present, 4% of the revenue of a secondary sale is royalties, so this means 2% goes to members.

Tokens in the Investors Club entitle their holders to a share of 50% of all the profits generated by the World of Women fund. This isn’t total profits – this refers to the 15% reinvested in crypto art mentioned above.

Tokens in the Curators Club gain entry to a raffle where every month the winner gets to select the next piece of crypto art bought by the World of Women fund, up to a value of 0.3 ETH.
