Expert review

The Wawa® Credit Card comes with a $0 annual fee, has a 26.49% variable APR, and a welcome offer of 50 cents back per gallon for the first month. After that, you earn 5 cents per gallon. This may not seem like much, but you’ll get around 2% cash back if a gallon costs $2.50.

Unfortunately, that’s about all there is to this card. The biggest misstep here is the card doesn’t earn rewards on in-store Wawa purchases. For a store that’s so well known for its fresh food and coffee, you’d expect the card to at least earn 1.5% back on such purchases. What’s worse is the card is closed-loop, meaning you can’t use it at other gas stations in a pinch. As such, the Wawa® Credit Card is hard to recommend over a more general gas rewards card, or even a flat cash back credit card — both types of cards will likely offer more value.

How to apply for the Wawa® Credit Card

To apply for the card, you must be at least 18 years old and a US resident. If you meet these criteria, here’s how to apply:

  1. Visit the Wawa website.
  2. Locate the Wawa® Credit Card under Fuel, cards and more.
  3. Click Apply now.
  4. Fill out the application form.
  5. Review the form and submit.

What credit score do I need?

Increase your chances of approval with a good to excellent credit score of 670 or higher. However, some cardholders managed to get this card with a fair credit score of 630.

Wawa® Credit Card benefits

  • Welcome offer. You can save 50 cents per gallon of gas purchased for your first month after account opening. To earn this offer you need to apply for the card by 12/31/2021.
  • Earn back on gas purchases. After your intro period ends, you’ll earn 5 cents back per gallon on gas purchased at Wawa using this card. This comes out to roughly 2% back on your gas purchases. Cash back is earned in the form of a statement credit to your account.
  • No annual fee. You won’t pay an annual fee to use this card.
  • Wawa® Credit Card drawbacks

  • Only earns on gas. Wawa is popular for offering handmade sandwiches, snacks and other pick-me-ups at their locations. Unfortunately, this card doesn’t earn cashback on purchases made within the Wawa store.
  • High APR. This card sports a 26.49% variable APR, which is much higher than the 16% average.
  • Potentially low credit limit. Depending on your credit score, your starting credit limit with this card could start as low as $200.
  • Only usable at Wawa. A closed loop card, the Wawa® Credit Card can only be used at Wawa.

    Bottom line

The Wawa® Credit Card comes with a generous 25 cents per gallon at Wawa gas stations during your first two months of card membership. This is the only perk that makes the card worth it.

After that, you earn 5 cents per gallon. This roughly equals to 10% cash back for the first two months and 2% cash back after that. Also, you get to earn rewards only up to your first 100 gallons per month.

But if you buy more gas than that, this card won’t do you any good. If you buy more than 100 gallons per month or if you want a higher rewards rate on your gas purchases, consider other gas credit cards.
