Mexico is enjoying a great run at the World Cup, but Group F is still very much up for grabs.

Mexico started off their World Cup campaign with a bang, securing a 0-1 victory against defending champions Germany. In Round 2 they continued to impress after defeating South Korea. El Tri dominated the match and had a two-goal lead until close to the end – courtesy of Carlos Vela, who converted a penalty, and Javier Hernandez. Heung-Min Son scored a beautiful goal for Korea in the 90th minute, the match ending 1-2. Mexico secured the three points and are well on their way to the knockouts. With two victories in the bag, their chances of advancing to the next round are looking better than ever, so they should be in great spirits going into their Thursday encounter with Sweden.

Meanwhile, Sweden isn’t eliminated quite yet, but the Europeans need to beat or draw with Mexico and cross their fingers for Germany to lose in Round 3 in order to advance. The team defeated South Korea 1-0 in their opening game, but couldn’t repeat the performance against Germany in Round 2. Their encounter was explosive, with Germany bouncing back after their opening match defeat and proving they’ve still got what it takes to stun their opponents.

Sweden took the lead in the 32th minute, thanks to a goal by Ola Toivonen. Marco Reus equalized less than 20 minutes later and his team continued to attack, pushing Sweden in survival mode. Things were looking good for Sweden when Germany were left with only 10 men in the 82th minute, after Jerome Boateng got a second yellow card and was eliminated. However, the Germans kept pushing, and Toni Kroos finally scored in stoppage time, earning Germany the victory they desperately needed to keep their hope of advancing alive. Unfortunately, this left Sweden with only three points ahead of Round 3, so they now need to up the ante against Mexico if they want to stay in the game.

This will be the second encounter between Mexico and Sweden at a World Cup tournament. Previously, Sweden won 3-0 in their opening group stage match in 1958. The Group F match will take place at Ekaterinburg Arena.
