There are fewer things more relaxing than sitting back in your favorite spot on the couch and watching a favorite movie. While you can watch all of the Disney+ library on a smartphone or tablet, getting that content onto your big screen TV takes a bit more effort.
While some smart TVs such as Samsung, Sony and LG smart TVs let you install a Disney+ app directly, you can still watch Disney+ content on a regular TV. If you’re looking to watch Disney+ on a small screen though, we’ve got that covered too. Check out our list of all devices that Disney+ supports.
Here’s how to set up Disney+ for viewing on the big screen:
You can use Google Chromecast to stream content from your iOS or Android mobile device to a TV.
Your movie or TV show will start playing on your TV.
Assuming you’ve already set up the Disney+ app on your iOS device and have Apple TV, you can either install the Disney+ app on your 4th or 5th generation Apple TV. The Apple TV released in September 2017 supports 4K content. So you can watch Disney+ content at a higher resolution if your TV supports it.
To stream content from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, tap on the AirPlay icon near the top corner of your screen and choose your Apple TV from the list of available AirPlay devices.
If you have a 4th or 5th generation Apple TV, you can download and install the Disney+ app to the device, log in to your account and watch content without using your iOS device at all.
If you don’t have a streaming device connected to your TV then you can always directly connect a computer to your TV over HDMI.
Connect your computer to your TV using an HDMI cable. Switch your TV to the appropriate HDMI input and your content should appear on the big screen. As HDMI carries both video and audio, the soundtrack should come through your speaker system as well.
You can also connect a smartphone or tablet to your TV and do the same thing.
Note that, assuming your device does support HDMI output, you may need an adapter between your device and the HDMI cable such as a USB-C-to-HDMI or Lightning-to-HDMI convertor.
Amazon’s Fire TV Stick is similar to Google Chromecast. It connects to your TV through HDMI and allows you to wirelessly stream content from mobile devices to your TV. But it also allows you to install apps, such as Disney+, so you can watch content without using your smartphone or tablet.
While older versions of the Fire TV Stick supported HD video, newer versions will deliver 4K content to your TV if it supports the higher resolution format.
Once you’ve installed the Fire TV Stick, install the app. You can search for Disney+ using Alexa or download the app from the Amazon Appstore and remotely install the app on your device.
Log in to your Disney+ account and enjoy the show.
