The AFC Champions League, also known as the Asian Champions League, is a club soccer competition open to teams from right across the continent.

Following a series of qualifying matches and criteria, 32 teams make the main tournament, split into 8 groups. They initially compete in a round robin format. The top 2 teams in each group then progress to the knockout rounds.

When is the AFC Champions League?

The group stage of this year’s AFC Champions League got underway in early February. The teams play each side in their group home and away. The third round of group matches was scheduled for the week starting March 1, but the coronavirus outbreak forced a six-month postponement of the fixtures.

The competition re-started on September 15 for teams in the western zone, although it was beset by more issues related to COVID-19. The eastern zone, which includes teams from Japan, Korea, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand and others, resumed in November.

How to watch the AFC Champions League in the US
