Visa is a strong option if you’re looking for extended warranties, as it offers the benefit standard with its Signature and Infinite products. Meanwhile, this isn’t the case with Visa Traditional cards. Keep in mind that whether your card has the feature may ultimately depend on your issuer.
How to use Visa extended warranties
Here’s how to activate your Visa extended warranty:
Make an eligible purchase with your Visa card or your card’s reward program.
In the event of a product failure, call the Visa benefit administrator within 60 days. If you have a Visa Signature, call 800-551-8472. If you have a Visa Infinite, call 888-221-3289.
Report the product failure to the support representative and answer their questions about the incident. They will send you a claim form and inform you of additional information you must submit. If necessary, they’ll direct you to a qualified repair facility.
Return the claim form within 90 days of product failure. Also, include additional information required by your benefit administrator.
Additional information to submit with your claim
Along with your claim form, submit the following information:
A copy of your billing statement, which will show you made the purchase with your card or rewards program.
If you use an additional form of payment besides your card, be prepared to show documentation as proof.
A copy of the sales receipt.
A copy of the original US warranty and other applicable warranties.
A description of the item.
The item’s serial number.
The original repair bill or repair estimate. These should note the reason for the product failure.
Other information the benefit administrator asks from you.
Visa extended warranty policy
Visa doubles your eligible warranty of three years or less, up to a maximum of one additional year.
The maximum coverage is the original price of the item. This doesn’t include shipping or handling fees.
Each claim is capped at $10,000, and you can make total claims up to a cardholder maximum of $50,000.
What’s not covered
Unfortunately, not all purchases qualify for extended warranties, including:
Motorized vehicles such as boats, aircraft and automobiles, as well as their equipment.
Costs that aren’t covered under the original manufacturer’s US warranty or another eligible warranty.
Items you buy for resale, or for commercial or professional use.
Real estate and items that are to be added to real estate.
Leased or rented items.
The item’s serial number.

Who gets to use Visa extended warranties?
You can activate Visa extended warranties if you’re a cardholder of an eligible, US-issued Visa card. Remember, only Visa Signature and Visa Infinite cards can possess this feature. Your issuer also has the final say on what features your credit card has, so consider calling before you apply if this feature is important to you.
While you won’t find extended warranties with all Visa cards, the benefit does come standard with Signature and Infinite products. If you don’t yet have a Visa card with this feature and want one, consider comparing such products as the Visa cashback card or Visa cards designed for travel.
