Valve is making a Dota card game

Because of course it is.

Forget Half-Life 3, Portal 3 or Left for Dead 3, the company behind Steam has much, much bigger plans for its first proper game in over four years. It’s called The Artifact, and it’s a Dota 2 trading card game.

Once you’ve let the disappointment of missing out on another Gordon Freeman adventure fade away, it’s not hard to see why Valve is doing this. After all, Dota 2 regularly rakes in hundreds of thousands of concurrent players each day, many times more than even the immensely popular PlayerUnknown’s Batllegrounds. If The Artifact is coming to mobile the same way that Hearthstone did, it’ll have the chance to keep making Valve money even when players aren’t sitting at their computers.

Other than the all-too-brief teaser above, Valve has released no other information regarding The Artifact. All we know is that it’s set to arrive sometime next year.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as more information is available.
