The basics

The U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Edge™ Travel Rewards Card is a small business credit card designed for frequent travelers. You earn 2 points per dollar on a category you spend most — gas, airfares or office supplies — 2 points for cell phone expenses and 1 point on all other purchases. Redeem these points for flights, car rentals, hotel bookings, cruises, gift cards, shopping and more.

FlexPoints explained

Earn FlexPoints with every purchase you make using this card. If you don’t like to wait to earn more points, you can always buy FlexPoints at a rate of 3 cents per point. You can purchase a minimum of 3,000 points in 1,000 point increments, up to 60,000 in one calendar year.

Redeem FlexPoints for:

Travel rewards, including airfare, hotels and car rentals — each point is worth 1.5 cents.

  • Annual fee — each point is worth 1.4 cents.
  • Statement credit — each point is worth 1 cent.
  • Merchandise from Apple, Sony, Oakley, Canon, Dell and more — each point is worth 1 cent.
  • Gift cards for Amazon, Best Buy, Sears, Starbucks and more — each point is worth 1 cent.

To put this into perspective, suppose you spend $10,000 per year on air travel or gas. You’ll annually earn 20,000 points — worth $300 in travel rewards. That’s 3% in cashback value. If you spend $25,000 on all other purchases, you’ll get an additional 25,000 points. Your FlexPoints value for the combined purchases in this case is $375, or 1.5%.

FlexPoints highest value is achieved when you spend more money on a specific category, like gas or air tickets, and then you redeem your points for travel rewards.

Want to earn more points?

Consider getting the personal FlexPerks® Gold American Express® Card by U.S. Bank and earn 3x points at restaurants. You can also get a welcome offer of 30,000 points when you spend $2,000 in the first four months of your account opening. The only drawback is the annual fee of $85. However, you can redeem around 6,000 FlexPoints to cover your annual fee. That’s $2,000 spent per year on restaurants — the amount equal to clear the welcome offer. Everything you spend above $2,000 will earn more points for you to redeem on other rewards.

The perks

  • Signup bonus.

Spend $2,000 in the first 4 months after you open your account and get 400 bonus points — worth $375 in travel rewards, which equals 18.75% in cash back.

  • Earn FlexPoints.

Earn 2x points in the category you spend most — either gas, office supplies or airline purchases — 2x points on cell phone expenses and 1x point on all other purchases. Redeem points for travel rewards, shopping or cash back in the form of a deposit to a U.S. Bank checking or savings account or as a statement credit.

  • Airline allowance.

Get up to $25 airline allowance for baggage fees, seat upgrades or in-flight food and beverages with each redeemed airline award ticket. If you redeem two award tickets, you may earn the amount of two airline allowances — up to $50. You must contact cardmember service within 90 days after travel to request the airline allowance be credited to your account.

  • Annual fee credit.

Spend more than $24,000 per year and U.S. Bank will credit your card’s annual fee of $55, plus $10 for each employee card. That’s just $2,000 in monthly spending to clear the annual fee.
