A higher credit limit can give you peace of mind as having more borrowing power can be useful for emergencies. Unfortunately, you can’t request a specific amount when you apply for a card as your credit line is determined by factors such as your creditworthiness, annual income and debt to income ratio. But you can request a credit limit increase after using your card for at least six months.
Log in to your U.S. Bank online banking account and select the credit card you want to check. You can also find this information on your credit card statement or by calling U.S. Bank customer service.
U.S. Bank doesn’t openly provide any eligibility criteria, but here’s a rough guideline based on other credit card providers’ criteria:
High income is often associated with high spending. If your income has grown since you applied for the card, you could be considered for a credit limit increase.
Note: Even if you meet the eligibility criteria, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get a credit limit increase.

If your current credit line doesn’t satisfy your needs, request a credit limit increase either online or by phone. However, only make your request once you’ve used your card responsibly for at least six months to reduce chances of rejection.
As an alternative, you can also apply for a new credit card and get a new line of credit plus additional perks and features.
