What is video conferencing?

When you can’t meet with colleagues or clients face to face, video conferencing lets you all attend meetings from the comfort of your home (or anywhere else with an Internet connection). A video conferencing service provides a sort of virtual meeting room that means both business meetings and even social gatherings can happen anywhere and at any time, even if the participants are miles apart.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, many more companies have started using these services. But which one – and which level of service – is right for your business?

Both companies also have plans called Enterprise, designed for larger companies. For GoToMeeting, this plan includes up to 3,000 participants and a dedicated customer success manager. The price is not listed on the company’s site, as you must contact it directly to discuss the details.

Zoom has two levels of the Enterprise plan. The standard one, which includes up to 500 participants, and Enterprise Plus, which includes up to 1,000. Both plans include a dedicated customer success manager and, although the price is listed as $19.99 on the company’s site, you must contact the sales department directly to arrange for this plan.

Customer reviews

Customer reviews for Zoom are largely positive. In the Google Play store, the app has 4 out of 5 stars, based on more than 90K reviews. In the App Store, the app has 4.6 out of 5 stars, based on more than 124K reviews. Customers particularly love the ease of use and ability to communicate with a poor Internet connection.

It’s a similar story with customer reviews for the GoToMeeting app, although the volume of reviews is much lower. In the Google Play store, GoToMeeting has 4.6 out of 5 stars, based on more than 25K reviews. It’s the same rating in the App Store, based on more than 2K reviews.

Verdict: Is Zoom better than GoToMeeting?

Both companies provide a solid video conferencing service. Zoom’s distinct advantage is its free version, which is perfectly adequate for use by smaller companies.

If you run a larger operation or want that little bit of extra customisation, the business options available from both providers come with a very long list of features. The “best of the best” from GoToMeeting is the unlimited meeting time on offer, whereas Zoom gives you the option to personalise everything to your brand.

Ultimately, both are great products, and the choice comes down to which features matter the most to you.

If I subscribe to the free version of Zoom and decide this is right for me, is it easy to upgrade to the paid version?

      Hi Peter,

Thanks for getting in touch. You can easily upgrade your Zoom account to the paid version through the ‘billing’ tab under ‘account management’. All you’ll need to do is enter your contact and payment details. One drawback is that this cannot be done through the Zoom app – you’ll have to log-in using your preferred online browser (Chrome, Safary, etc).

I hope this helps, but feel free to reach out for further assistance.

      Regards,
      Ronny
