So, whether it works out cheap for you will largely depend on how you plan to invest. <\/p><p>For the share dealing account or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/stocks-and-shares-isas\">stocks and shares ISA<\/a>, it costs a flat \u00a336 a year (which works out at \u00a33 per month). This will suit those with larger portfolios because it can be cheaper than being on a percentage based structure where your fees will grow in line with your holdings. <\/p><p>One unique element with Halifax is that it has no platform fee if you open up an 18 to 25 account (if you\u2019re within this age bracket), making it an appealing choice for younger investors. <\/p><p>When it comes to commissions, Halifax hits both ends of the spectrum. It\u2019s excellent value for international investments because there\u2019s no commission to pay (just the 1.25% FX fee). However, for all other UK investments, including funds, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/share-trading\/best-investment-trusts\">investment trusts<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/savings-accounts\/fixed-rate-bonds\">bonds<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/share-trading\/exchange-traded-funds-etfs\">exchange-traded funds (ETFs)<\/a> \u2013 it\u2019s a steep \u00a39.50 per trade. <\/p><p>You can avoid this high commission by setting up a regular investing plan. So if you want to invest a certain amount each month in say, a global equity ETF, you don\u2019t pay any commission for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/share-trading\/exchange-traded-funds-etfs\/how-to-invest-in-etfs\">ETF investing<\/a> if you\u2019ve scheduled it in advance. <\/p><p>If you opt for the self-invested personal pension (SIPP) to invest for your retirement, there\u2019s a steeper platform fee of \u00a322.50 per quarter (which works out at \u00a37.50 per month) if your portfolio is under \u00a350,000 and \u00a345 per quarter (\u00a315 per month) for portfolios over \u00a350,000.<\/p><p>Halifax does also offer the option for automatic dividend reinvestment which is charged at 2% of the dividend value (capped at \u00a39.50 per stock). It does also offer the option to use different <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/share-trading\/trading-order-types\">trading order types<\/a> (like limit orders and stop losses), which it calls a \u201cTradePlan\u201d. On the App Store it has an impressive 4.8 out of 5 from over a million reviews and on Google Play, it has a marginally lower 4.7 out of 5 from over 200,000 votes (as of February 2024). <\/p><p>One thing to note is that these reviews are the whole Halifax banking app and not just specific to the investing experience.
