Mettle<\/a> is a standalone business banking app with the backing of one of the UK\u2019s high street banks, NatWest. <\/p>

Revolut<\/a> is an app-based bank offering a range of personal and business accounts. Revolut offers 4 paid-for business plans. <\/p>

This guide compares Mettle\u2019s business account with Revolut\u2019s Basic account so that you can decide which option is best for your business. <\/p>

Both the Mettle and Revolut business accounts are managed digitally, so you won\u2019t have branch access with either account. Both come with a slick black Mastercard debit card that you can use to spend money in the UK and abroad with no transaction charges. Neither account pays interest on in-credit balances. <\/p>

Revolut was granted authorisation to become a bank in 2024, but as yet, it\u2019s not operating as one. This means money held in a Revolut business account won\u2019t be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).<\/p>

Revolut is now a fully licenced bank in the UK, which means your funds are protected up to \u00a3120,000 under the FSCS. Mettle operates with NatWest\u2019s banking licence, so offers the same protection. <\/p>

Although there are plenty of similarities between the 2 providers\u2019 account features, there are also some key differences.<\/p>

Customers of Revolut won\u2019t be able to deposit cash or cheque payments into their business account. But while cheque deposits are also not permitted with Mettle, customers can pay in cash up to \u00a3500 a time at a Post Office branch or PayPoint. <\/p>

Both accounts let you freeze and unfreeze your card within the app, and you can also integrate the 2 accounts with accountancy software. However, while Revolut\u2019s account permits international payments and gives you extra cards for your employees, Mettle\u2019s account doesn\u2019t. <\/p>

There\u2019s no monthly account fee with Mettle and Revolut customers can choose from 4 different pricing plans. Mettle customers can also pay \u00a34 a month for Mettle+ which gives them access to invoicing tools. <\/p>

There are no fees for payments in or out of either account, or for direct debits. Mettle doesn\u2019t permit international transfers, while Revolut charges a fixed \u00a35 per transfer. <\/p>

However, while Mettle customers can also benefit from fee-free cash withdrawals, Revolut charges a 2% fee. <\/p>

If you use your Mettle or Revolut card for spending overseas, no foreign transaction fees will be charged. However, while Mettle also offers fee-free ATM withdrawals overseas, if you use your Revolut card to withdraw cash abroad, you will pay 2% of the transaction amount.<\/p>

You can sign up for a Mettle or Revolut account with ease through their respective apps. The process is usually quick, although you\u2019ll need to provide a form of ID such as a passport or driving licence. You will also need to provide details about your business and Mettle may request proof that your business is trading \u2013 for example, an online presence (website or social media account), a utility bill or a tax return. <\/p>

No credit check is necessary for either account. However, while Mettle sends your card out free of charge, you may need to pay a delivery fee with Revolut (the amount will be shown in the app when you order your card). Your Mettle card should arrive within 3\u20135 working days, while your Revolut card can take up to 10 days to be delivered.<\/p>

Card replacements with Mettle are always free, but Revolut charges \u00a34.99 per replacement. <\/p>

Winner:<\/strong> Mettle. Although the sign-up process is similar, Mettle doesn\u2019t charge a card delivery or card replacement fee. <\/p>

Neither Mettle nor Revolut are signed up to the Current Account Switch Service. This means if you wish to switch your business account over to either provider, you\u2019ll need to do so manually. <\/p>

Both providers can be contacted via their in-app chat and by email. However, while Revolut offers 24\/7 access to customer support, you can only contact Mettle Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm and Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 5pm.<\/p>

Winner:<\/strong> Revolut, simply because you can seek support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.<\/p>

Round 7: Customer reviews<\/h3>

On Trustpilot, Mettle scored 4.7 out of 5 from more than 6,100 reviews (March 2026). Customers praised the built-in accountancy features and ease-of-use, but some said the customer service was poor.<\/p>

Revolut doesn\u2019t have a dedicated page for business reviews, but overall, it scored 4.7 out of 5 from almost 376,000 reviews (March 2026). Customers said the account was easy to set up and packed with great features, although some also said they\u2019d had problems reaching customer support.<\/p>

Overall winner: Is Mettle better than Revolut?<\/h3>

Both of these accounts have a lot to offer businesses, but in this review, Mettle beats Revolut 5-2.<\/p>

Overall, Mettle charges fewer fees, with no charges for cash withdrawals, card delivery or card replacements. Mettle also permits cash deposits which is crucial for businesses that regularly accept cash payments. <\/p>

However, the Mettle account won\u2019t be the right choice for all businesses. If your business regularly sends payments to clients or companies overseas or you\u2019re looking for an account that offers additional cards for employees, Revolut will be the better account. Ultimately, it all comes down to what\u2019s more important to your business. <\/p>
