Once set up, you\u2019re able to withdraw your pay early at any time of day from your phone and the money will arrive in your bank account within minutes.<\/p><p>You\u2019re charged a small fee for each transaction, which is shown in the app. It isn\u2019t a loan or credit facility because you\u2019re accessing your own salary early, so there\u2019s no credit check or interest charges, just the transaction fee.<\/p><\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/li><\/ul><h3>How does it work?<\/h3><p>When your employer sends your salary to your bank account, your bank usually holds the funds until your designated payday. <\/p><p>However, if you use a banking app that offers a pay early feature, this typically means that rather than waiting for the funds to clear, the app makes the funds available in your bank account as soon as it\u2019s aware that the money is coming into the system.<\/p><p>Once it\u2019s received this information from your employer, the provider can transfer your salary into your bank account a day early.<\/p><h3>What steps do you need to take?<\/h3><p>You\u2019ll need to hold a current account with a provider like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/current-accounts\/monzo-review\">Monzo<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/current-accounts\/revolut-review\">Revolut<\/a>. You\u2019ll also need to be receiving your salary into this account. <\/p><p>Depending on the app, you can then choose when you want to get paid early, or it might be done automatically. Make sure to check what set up your chosen bank has. <\/p><h3>What are the downsides?<\/h3><p>The main downside is that you can only choose to be paid one day early \u2013 which isn\u2019t likely to be hugely helpful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/breakdown-cover\/what-to-do-when-your-car-breaks-down\">if your car breaks down<\/a> in the middle of the month. <\/p><p>You\u2019ll also need to have a bank account with the right provider to be able to use the service. <\/p><h3>Bottom line<\/h3><p>Getting paid a day early can be useful if money is particularly tight one month, but for most people, it\u2019s unlikely to make a huge difference to their overall financial situation. <\/p><p>Where it could be particularly helpful is if you have a lot of bills that go out on your usual payday, in which case being paid a day early could make things a little less stressful.
