You should be prepared to lose all the money you invest in cryptoassets.<\/li>\n<li>The cryptoasset market is largely unregulated. There is a risk of losing money or any cryptoassets you purchase due to risks such as cyber-attacks, financial crime and firm failure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>2. You should not expect to be protected if something goes wrong<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) doesn't protect this type of investment because it's not a 'specified investment' under the UK regulatory regime \u2013 in other words, this type of investment isn't recognised as the sort of investment that the FSCS can protect. The value depends on how the overall portfolio performs in real time.<\/p><p>Some ETFs may already indirectly contain Bitcoin. But a spot Bitcoin ETF will buy the cryptocurrency directly, at its current price, and allow investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin without actually owning the cryptocurrency.<\/p><h3>Can UK investors buy Bitcoin ETFs?<\/h3><p>The FCA has banned access to crypto ETFs for UK retail investors, so UK investors aren\u2019t able to buy them currently.<\/p><p>The UK regulator is taking a cautious approach to cryptocurrency. New rules which came into force in October 2023 categorised Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as \u201crestricted mass market investments\u201d.<\/p><p>It\u2019s therefore unlikely we will see the UK follow the US\u2019s lead and make Bitcoin EFTs available.<\/p><p>The regulator has repeatedly flagged concerns about the extreme volatility of crypto and the difficulties retail investors face in valuing them. With its latest regulations, it\u2019s clear this opinion remains unchanged.<\/p><h3>What does this mean for the price of Bitcoin?<\/h3><p>After several years of turmoil, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/cryptocurrency\/coins\/how-to-buy-bitcoin\">Bitcoin\u2019s price<\/a> saw an uplift on the back of the SEC\u2019s announcement, peaking at $49,000 (around \u00a338,400).<\/p><p>The approval of Bitcoin ETFs will give investors more options globally, potentially driving up demand for the cryptocurrency. Some analysts have even said it could stabilise the price as it broadens the cryptocurrency\u2019s use and potential audience.<\/p><p>However, as the price of Bitcoin rises, some investors could decide to cash out, affecting the price.<\/p><p>Bitcoin is famous for its price volatility and there seems to be no change to that at present.<article class=\"luna-card luna-card--alt\"><div class=\"luna-card__block has-padding-small\"><p class=\"has-margin-bottom-xsmall\">*Cryptocurrencies aren't regulated in the UK and there's no protection from the Financial Ombudsman or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
