{"id":498159,"date":"2023-07-13T15:16:11","date_gmt":"2023-07-13T14:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/?p=498159"},"modified":"2024-05-14T08:16:43","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T07:16:43","slug":"press-release-brits-holiday-spending-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/media\/press-release-brits-holiday-spending-2023","title":{"rendered":"The average Brit plans to spend \u00a32,115 on holidays abroad in 2023, survey finds\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul><li><span>Two-thirds (66%) of UK adults are planning to spend money on holidays abroad this year.<\/span><\/li><li><span>Despite the ongoing cost of living crisis, the estimated spend per adult is up by \u00a3690 from 2022.<\/span><\/li><li><span>However,<\/span> <span>more than a quarter (27%) of Brits are not planning to go abroad in 2023. <\/span><\/li><li><span>Barbados has the highest average daily spend for Brits abroad at an impressive \u00a3231.<\/span><\/li><li><span>Meanwhile, people visiting India can enjoy a very affordable daily spend of just \u00a331.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>03, July, 2023, LONDON \u2013<\/b><span> <\/span><\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/banking\/travel-money-statistics\"><span>New research<\/span><\/a><span> from personal finance comparison site <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\"><span>finder.com<\/span><\/a><span> revealed that the average UK resident is planning to spend a significant \u00a32,115 on holidays abroad during 2023, including accommodation, flights and spending money.<\/span><\/p><p><span>Despite the ongoing cost of living crisis, this has increased from 2022 when the estimated spend per person on holidays abroad was \u00a31,425.<\/span><\/p><p><span>The survey also found that two-thirds (66%) of adults are planning to put money towards holidays abroad in 2023, an increase from June 2022, when research at the time found that 53% of UK adults were planning to travel abroad for leisure in the next 12 months. <\/span><\/p><p><span>However, some Brits are still staying cautious, as more than a quarter (27%) are not planning to spend money on going abroad in 2023, and 7% are not yet sure of their plans.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Most and least expensive countries for Brits holiday spending revealed<\/b><\/p><p><span>By combining ONS data with user data from Budget Your Trip, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/\"><span>finder.com<\/span><\/a><span> has also compared the average daily spend in 49 countries around the world. Barbados takes the top spot for the most expensive destination with an eye-watering average daily spend of \u00a3231. <\/span><\/p><p><span>In Spain, the UK&#8217;s most popular overseas destination, holidaymakers will expect to spend less than half that amount, with a typical daily budget of \u00a3105.<\/span><\/p><p><span>Malta comes in as the second most expensive destination, with a daily spend of \u00a3184, followed by Switzerland with \u00a3172, the USA with \u00a3171 and the United Arab Emirates, also with \u00a3171.<\/span><\/p><p><span>At the other end of the spectrum, people visiting India can expect to enjoy a very affordable holiday with an average daily spend of just \u00a331. Pakistan is not far behind, where visitors can expect to have a daily budget of just \u00a333. A total of 2,000 people were questioned throughout Great Britain, with representative quotas for gender, age and region.<\/span><\/p><p><span>Data on the number of Brits planning to travel abroad in 2022 is estimated based on a survey undertaken by the Department for Transport in June 2022, and taken as a percentage of the UK adult population according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The average spend per person was then calculated based on ONS data on the total holiday spend abroad by UK residents in 2022. <\/span><\/p><p><span>The average daily spend per country is based on data from the travel website Budget Your Trip, which is updated continually by users with real-life prices, and the most recent daily spend ONS data from 2022. The majority of values were averaged from the two sites.
