How to get your free shares in a few simple steps<\/h4>

Most of the time, getting free stocks is really simple and requires little effort. The process for each provider is slightly different, so check out our individual guides below for provider specific how-to lists.<\/p>

  1. Check the free offers available.<\/strong> We\u2019ve listed some of the best ones above<\/a> with the things you\u2019ll need to consider.<\/li>
  2. Get a referral link (and click on it!)<\/strong> You might need to ask a friend to refer you. We have some referral links too.<\/li>
  3. Sign up.<\/strong> You\u2019ll often need to be a new member for this process to work.<\/li>

    This offer is an excellent way to get started with IG\u2019s extensive 0% commission investing platform. You can choose between a general investment account (GIA), a stocks and shares ISA, or even a self-invested personal pension (SIPP). However, your free stocks will get paid into your GIA.<\/p>

        The OG commission-free trading app, Freetrade, is one of the few platforms offering a true sign-up reward. You don\u2019t have to persuade friends to get involved (although you can do that too if you want, as part of a separate promotion). If you\u2019re not across Freetrade, have a read of our review<\/a>. We think it\u2019s a super slick platform, although many features are reserved for paid plans only.<\/p>

        To get a free share, you need to be a new Freetrade customer<\/strong> and you need to fund your account with at least \u00a350<\/strong>. At the time of writing, the offer\u2019s only available through select sites (including Finder!). If you\u2019ve got an account already, you can still refer friends to get free shares (see the last step in the \u201chow to\u201d guide).<\/p>

        The free share you receive for signing up will be worth at least \u00a310 (max \u00a3100). You can refer up to 10 friends to get additional free shares.<\/p>

        How to get the free stock<\/h4>
        1. Open an account.<\/strong> You\u2019ll need to use Finder\u2019s link.<\/li>
        2. Fund your account.<\/strong> Deposit at least \u00a350 to qualify. Look out for Freetrade\u2019s occasional \u201cspecial offer\u201d periods when the minimum funding is lower.<\/li>
        3. Fill out your W-8BEN form<\/a>.<\/strong> This means you\u2019re able to get a US share.<\/li>
        4. Get your shares.<\/strong> Between 7 and 10 days later, your free share will be added to your account.<\/li>
        5. The fun doesn\u2019t stop there\u2026 You can get more free shares by referring your friends to Freetrade.<\/strong> They\u2019ll need to use a link you generate in your app in order for you both to get your free shares.<\/li><\/ol>

          How easy is it to get the free share?<\/h4>

          Pretty easy! You don\u2019t have to deposit too huge an amount into your account to get the free share, and there\u2019s the chance to continue getting free shares through referrals (until you run out of friends).<\/p>

          Your free share won\u2019t be put into your ISA, if you\u2019ve got one. The stock is placed into your general investment account (GIA).           One of the biggest global investing platforms, eToro, is currently offering a tiered welcome bonus for new users. Unlike referral-only deals, this offer is available simply for signing up and funding your account \u2014 no need to rope in friends (although eToro does run separate referral promotions from time to time).<\/p>

          If you\u2019re new to eToro, check out our in-depth eToro review<\/a>. It\u2019s worth knowing that the platform focuses on global stocks, many of which are US-listed and traded in dollars. It\u2019s a slick, beginner-friendly app, though one thing to note is that it doesn\u2019t offer an in-house stocks and shares ISA (instead supporting Moneyfarm\u2019s ISA through the eToro app).<\/p>

          To get the bonus, you need to be a new eToro customer<\/strong>, select stocks only during sign-up, and make a qualifying first deposit<\/strong>. How much you receive depends on how much you deposit \u2014 with welcome bonuses starting from \u00a340 of stocks (provided you deposit at least \u00a3500) and rising to \u00a3500 for larger deposits.<\/p>

          How to get the welcome bonus<\/h4>
          1. Open an account.<\/strong> You\u2019ll need to use Finder\u2019s link.<\/li>
          2. Verify your account.<\/strong> You\u2019ll need to fully verify your identity before you can qualify for the promotion.<\/li>
          3. Choose your stock.<\/strong> During sign-up, you\u2019ll be able to select a stock from a list of eligible \u201cQualified Stocks\u201d. Availability varies, and the list can change.<\/li>
          4. Fund your account.<\/strong> Make a first-time deposit of at least \u00a3200 (more for bigger rewards). Only your first deposit counts, and the money needs to stay in your account for 90 days.<\/li>
          5. Get your free stock.<\/strong> Once all conditions are met, your free stock is usually added to your account within 7 days.<\/li><\/ol>

            How easy is it to get the free shares?<\/h4>

            Fairly straightforward, as long as you\u2019re happy to leave your deposit untouched for 90 days. There\u2019s no trading requirement, and you don\u2019t need to refer anyone to qualify. The main hurdle is the minimum deposit, which is higher than some other UK free-share deals, but the rewards can also be bigger!<\/p>

            Something to consider<\/h4>

            The bonus stocks are not placed inside an ISA. Your investment is held in a standard taxable GIA account. <\/p>

            You should also be aware that eToro applies a $10 monthly inactivity fee if you don\u2019t log in for 12 months (easy to avoid, but worth knowing).<\/p>

              Lightyear\u2019s free share welcome bonus is probably one of the easiest out there with very few hoops to jump through, but you do need to deposit at least \u00a3100 which is a slightly higher amount than some other free stock deals but still relatively affordable.<\/p>

              New Robinhood sign-ups that have been appproved, linked their bank account and made a deposit within 14 days can choose a free fractional stock from a selection of 22 S&P 500 companies. The selection of companies seems quite random: it\u2019s the largest 2 \u201cwithin the top 13 sectors, both based on market cap, per August 29, 2025 data\u201d\u2026 But a free stock\u2019s a free stock!<\/p>

              You can also refer up to 5 friends to get free fractional share rewards. The free stocks you receive will be worth at least $7 and again, the maximum value is $175. You can refer as many friends as you like until you hit $1,500 in bonus stock in a year.<\/p>

              It\u2019s important to appreciate that Robinhood is for trading US stocks \u2013 commission-free, but US stocks only. You can open an account in the UK, but note that funds you deposit are immediately converted to US dollars. Learn more in our Robinhood review<\/a>.<\/p>

              How to get the free stocks<\/h4>
              1. Open an account.<\/strong> Get the app, create logins and verify your identity.<\/li>
              2. Link your bank account and make a deposit.<\/strong> You\u2019ll need to do this within 14 days of opening the account to be eligible.<\/li>
              3. Get a notification promting you to claim your reward.<\/strong> You\u2019ll be invited to claim a specified cash value to use toward fractional shares. You get 60 days to claim the reward.<\/li>
              4. Pick your stock and place your trade.<\/strong> Robinhood has a shortlist of 22 S&P 500 stocks to choose from.<\/li>
              5. Refer friends for more rewards.<\/strong> You can then get more free stocks by referring your friends to Robinhood (provided they sign up and make a deposit). Again, you get 60 days to claim each reward before it expires.<\/li><\/ol>

                How easy is it to get the free stocks?<\/h4>

                Robinhood could certainly make this more straightforward, and it doesn\u2019t help that it\u2019s a very hard company to contact, from our research. Online documentation about the promotions is also quite tucked away.<\/p>

                While some other apps just give you your reward, Robinhood notifies you that it\u2019s ready to claim, and you then have 60 days to do so. Pretty frustrating stuff! You can\u2019t withdraw the cash from selling the stocks for 30 days.<\/p>

                Something to consider<\/h4>

                Whether you\u2019re getting the sign-up or referral reward, Robinhood states that approximately 96% of participants will receive a net cash value of $7 to $8<\/strong>.
