{"id":381843,"date":"2021-03-22T17:09:06","date_gmt":"2021-03-22T17:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/?p=381843"},"modified":"2025-02-27T23:13:00","modified_gmt":"2025-02-27T23:13:00","slug":"press-release-easter-spending-set-to-hit-810-million-falling-for-a-second-year-in-a-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/media\/press-release-easter-spending-set-to-hit-810-million-falling-for-a-second-year-in-a-row","title":{"rendered":"Easter spending set to hit \u00a3810 million, falling for a second year in a row"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul><li>3 in 5 Brits (62%) plan to buy gifts or chocolate this Easter<\/li><li>The average amount these Brits will spend is \u00a324.86, down \u00a33 on last year&#8217;s figure<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>06, March, 2021, LONDON \u2013 <\/strong><\/p><p>Easter spending on gifts and chocolate is set to fall for the second year in a row in the UK with Brits planning to spend \u00a3810 million on gifts and chocolate this year.<\/p><p>This would be a decrease of 10%, or \u00a392 million, from 2020&#8217;s total of \u00a3902 million according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/banking\/easter-spending-statistics\">annual research<\/a> from the shopping comparison site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\">finder.com<\/a>.  <\/p><p>A fall in the average spend per person is behind the decrease in overall expenditure. This year, someone who plans to buy gifts and chocolate on Easter will part with an average of \u00a324.86, which is a fall of 10% from last year&#8217;s \u00a327.66 figure.<\/p><p>The number of people who plan to buy something for themselves or others this Easter remains unchanged. As with last year, just over 62% of the population plan to do this, which is the equivalent of 32.6 million.  <\/p><p>Similarly, the number of people celebrating Easter without spending will remain very similar. Last year 5.7 million (11%) said they would celebrate without gifts, while this year&#8217;s total rises slightly to 12%, or 6.1 million.<\/p><p>This brings the total number of people who will mark the Easter weekend in some way up to 74% &#8211; a slight increase from 73% last year.<\/p><p><strong>Generation<\/strong><br \/>Millennials (those born 1981-1996) are the most likely to celebrate Easter and also spend the most doing so. Around 4 in 5 (81%) plan to recognise the event in some way, and those who will buy gifts and chocolate plan to go through \u00a330.52 on average.<\/p><p>On the other end of the scale, baby boomers (those born 1946-1964), along with the silent generation (those born before 1928-1945), are the least likely to acknowledge Easter, with 68% of both age groups celebrating it.
