If you're relocating there, say for work, you'll need to open an account with a local bank to have your future salary paid into and use it for any transactions that require a local bank NBD.<\/strong> One of the largest banks in the country, it has lots of branches and a good digital experience as well. It offers accounts for expats and a range of products including credit cards, loans and bank accounts.<\/p><p><strong>Mashreq NEO. <\/strong>Mashreq is one of the oldest UAE banks and this is its neobank offering. It says you can open an account quickly online. It has accounts and debit cards so it doesn\u2019t compete with all that the bigger banks have, but it\u2019s a good option if you want something more simple and easy.<\/p><p><strong>ADCB. <\/strong>Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, as the name suggests, is based in Abu Dhabi, but it\u2019s available in the rest of the country too. It\u2019s a strong choice for businesses, but it also offers a range of personal banking options, for citizens and expats alike.<\/p><h3>Which documents are required?<\/h3><p>You can expect to be asked for the following documents when opening a bank account in Dubai.<\/p><ul class=\"list-10\"><li>Your passport<\/li><li>Copies of your passport photo<\/li><li>A no-objection letter from your employer or visa sponsor<\/li><li>Your UAE identification card or proof of residency (if applicable)<\/li><li>Proof of address<\/li><li>A copy of your visa<\/li><\/ul><p>In some cases, you may be asked for<\/p><ul class=\"list-10\"><li>An updated curriculum vitae (CV)<\/li><li>A copy of recent bank statements<\/li><\/ul><p>If the official language of your home country is not English, you may have to get these documents translated.<\/p><h3>How does the application work?<\/h3><p>The application process is very similar to opening an account in the UK.<br>In most cases, foreigners will have to complete their application in branch, because there are so many documents that needed to be presented.<br>After these documents have been presented and checked, the bank will complete background checks and financial checks before your account is opened.<br>What\u2019s more, the UAE Central Bank recently mandated a Know Your Customer (KYC) policy, which requires banks to ask a few questions about their previous financial transactions.<\/p><h3>Can a foreigner open a bank account if they are not physically in the country?<\/h3><p>Some banks may allow you to open an account if you\u2019re not in Dubai. However, in this case, you will have to hire assistance from a financial advisor in Dubai to present and sign documents on your behalf.<\/p><h3>Can a bank account be opened online?<\/h3><p>Yes, in recent years, a number of online-only banks have emerged.<br>A key advantage of these accounts is that they can be opened online, without having to present any documents to bank staff within a branch.<br>These banks also tend to offer competitive rates on overseas spending and ATM withdrawals, meaning UK residents will have little problem using these bank accounts while living in Dubai (or anywhere in the world). A disadvantage to these accounts is that you\u2019ll have no access to in-branch customer service.<\/p><h3>Alternative options<\/h3><p>For those who would prefer not to open an account in Dubai, another option is to open an account with a digital bank such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/current-accounts\/starling-bank-review\">Starling<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/current-accounts\/revolut-review\">Revolut<\/a>. Providing you download the bank\u2019s app, opening an account is easy and you\u2019ll also benefit from low foreign transaction fees.<\/p><p>Starling\u2019s personal account, for example, does not charge fees for ATM withdrawals or foreign transactions. Revolut\u2019s account allows you to transfer money abroad in more than 30 currencies with the interbank exchange rate, while its multi-currency card can hold up to 30 currencies at a time.<\/p><h3>Pros and cons of opening a bank account in Dubai<\/h3><div class=\"u-grid\"><div class=\"u-grid__col u-1\/2@s\"><ul class=\"list-1\"><li><strong>Banks in the UAE cater to foreigners and expats.<\/strong> As an international business hub, the UAE\u2019s banks are used to opening accounts for foreign residents.<\/li><li><strong>Accounts can be opened online<\/strong>.
