However, as people are increasingly moving their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/current-accounts\/best-banks\">current accounts<\/a> online, bank branches have been disappearing from the high streets of the UK at a rapid pace. Many people open, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/current-accounts\/best-bank-switching-deals\">switch<\/a> and manage their current account online these days. We look at the latest UK bank branch statistics.<\/p><article class=\"luna-card luna-card--shadow\"><div class=\"luna-card__block\"><h3 class=\"luna-sectionTitle\">Bank branch statistics: Highlights<\/h3><ul><li>In 2025, there were around 4,302 bank branches open in the UK.<\/li><li>An estimated 62% of UK bank branches closed between 2012 and 2025.<\/li><li>Nationwide Group has the most UK bank branches, with 696.<\/li><li>Around 3.9 million UK adults (7%) want in-person interaction at a physical bank branch and, therefore, would not open a digital-only account.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/article><h3>Number of bank branches in the UK<\/h3><p>In 2025, 4,302 bank branches were open in the UK (not including building societies). A third of that group (34%) said preferring to speak to someone in person and use in-branch services was the reason they wouldn\u2019t open a digital-only bank account.
