While it\u2019s unlikely that you can get exposure to the entire stock exchange, you can invest in NASDAQ ETFs or in the NASDAQ Index.<\/p><h3>What does \u201cshorting\u201d the NASDAQ mean?<\/h3><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/short-selling\">Short selling<\/a>, or \u201cshorting\u201d, is a method of trading that allows you to take advantage of a decrease in an asset\u2019s value. You short a stock by borrowing the asset from a broker to sell it, then purchase it back later at a (hopefully) lower price. It\u2019s particularly popular to short a stock or market when there\u2019s a stock market crash, such as during the coronavirus stock market crash.<\/p><h3>How to short the NASDAQ<\/h3><p>There are loads of different ways that you can short the NASDAQ. The most commonly used method for the average investor is to invest with inverse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/share-trading\/invest-in\/exchange-traded-funds-etfs\">exchange-traded funds (ETFs)<\/a>. Another method is to take a short position on the NASDAQ with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/cfd-trading\">CFDs<\/a>.<\/p><h4>Invest in inverse ETFs<\/h4><p>Inverse ETFs track an underlying index, such as the NASDAQ, but instead of following it closely, it moves in the opposite direction. So let\u2019s say the NASDAQ was to rise in value by 2%, an inverse ETF that\u2019s tracking it will decrease in value by 2%.<\/p><p>People generally invest in inverse ETFs to get profits in a very short period of time. It\u2019s for this reason that they can be known as \u201cultra-short funds\u201d.<\/p><p>You can get leveraged inverse ETFs, which can give you two or three times the exposure that you\u2019d usually get. \u201cLeverage\u201d is effectively borrowing, so it\u2019s possible to lose more than your initial investment with this method. Make sure you know the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/investment-risk\">risks<\/a>.<\/p><h4>How to short the NASDAQ with derivatives<\/h4><p>Another way of shorting the NASDAQ is to take a short position using derivatives. This allows you to take a position on the stock without actually owning it. Make sure you don\u2019t choose one willy nilly \u2013 have a look at the fees and features and make sure it offers the types of investments you\u2019re looking for.<\/li><li><strong>Open an account.<\/strong> You\u2019ll need to open an account with your chosen provider.
