Because they have massive liquidity, you\u2019re able to trade them virtually always. Furthermore, you\u2019ll find the lowest <b>spreads<\/b> \u2013 or brokerage costs \u2013 when trading these pairs.<\/p><p>Major currency pairs include:<\/p><ul><li><strong>GBP\/USD<\/strong> (British pound\/US dollar)<\/li><li><strong>EUR\/USD<\/strong> (Euro\/US dollar)<\/li><li><strong>USD\/JPY<\/strong> (US dollar\/Japanese yen)<\/li><li><strong>USD\/CHF<\/strong> (US dollar\/Swiss franc)<\/li><li><strong>USD\/CAD<\/strong> (US dollar\/Canadian dollar)<\/li><li><strong>AUD\/USD<\/strong> (Australian dollar\/US dollar)<\/li><li><strong>NZD\/USD<\/strong> (New Zealand dollar\/US dollar)<\/li><\/ul><p>Notice that every major currency pair has the US dollar on one side. This is because the dollar is the world\u2019s leading reserve currency, and it\u2019s involved in about 88% of currency trades.<\/p><h3>Minor currency pairs<\/h3><p>When a currency pair doesn\u2019t include the US dollar, it\u2019s called a <b>minor currency pair<\/b> or a <b>cross-currency pair.<\/b><\/p><p>Here are a few minor currency pairs:<\/p><ul><li><strong>EUR\/GBP<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/international-money-transfers\/currency-exchange-rates\/gbp-eur-exchange-rate\">Euro\/British pound<\/a>)<\/li><li><strong>EUR\/AUD<\/strong> (Euro\/Australian dollar)<\/li><li><strong>GBP\/JPY<\/strong> (British pound\/Japanese yen)<\/li><li><strong>CHF\/JPY<\/strong> (Swiss franc\/Japanese yen)<\/li><li><strong>NZD\/JPY<\/strong> (New Zealand dollar\/Japanese yen)<\/li><li><strong>GBP\/CAD<\/strong> (British pound\/Canadian dollar)<\/li><\/ul><p>The most widely traded minor pairs consist of the pound sterling, euro or yen.<\/p><h3>Exotic currency pairs<\/h3><p>An <b>exotic currency pair<\/b> includes a major currency and the currency of a developing economy, such as Brazil or South Africa. You won\u2019t find exotic pairs as often as you\u2019ll find major or minor pairs, which means the spreads can be higher when trading them.<\/p><p>Exotic currency pairs include:<\/p><ul><li><strong>EUR\/TRY<\/strong> (Euro\/Turkish lira)<\/li><li><strong>GBP\/ZAR<\/strong> (British pound\/South African rand)<\/li><li><strong>JPY\/NOK<\/strong> (Japanese yen\/Norwegian krone)<\/li><li><strong>NZD\/SGD<\/strong> (New Zealand dollar\/Singapore dollar)<\/li><li><strong>USD\/HKD<\/strong> (US dollar\/Hong Kong dollar)<\/li><li><strong>AUD\/MXN<\/strong> (Australian dollar\/Mexican peso)<\/li><\/ul><h3>Which pairs should I trade?<\/h3><p>Picking the right currency pairs to trade depends on your experience as a forex trader. If you\u2019re new to the game, it\u2019s best to stick with the major and minor pairs \u2013 it\u2019s easier to find trades and you\u2019ll get lower spreads. Exotic pairs are more difficult to work with because they\u2019re far less liquid and you\u2019ll find higher spreads.<\/p><p>That said, it\u2019s possible to make money with exotic pairs as long as you know what you\u2019re doing.
