Most of the data in Finder's comparison tables is provided by Defaqto.<\/p><\/div><\/article><h3>How do MBNA balance transfers work?<\/h3><p>With MBNA, everything\u2019s online \u2013 including the first step: checking whether you\u2019re eligible for an MBNA offer.<\/p><p>Like pretty much every UK credit card provider, MBNA lets you check your eligibility without any impact on your credit score (it uses a \u201csoft search\u201d of your credit file, which it calls \u201cClever Check\u201d). This takes less that 5 minutes and it\u2019s a straightforward form with questions about your income and outgoings.<\/p><p>As well as showing you whether or not you\u2019d be likely to get approved for a credit card, <strong>MBNA will also estimate your credit limit<\/strong>. MBNA typically caps balance transfers at <strong>93% of your credit limit<\/strong>. So if you get a \u00a310,000 credit limit, you could balance transfer up to \u00a39,300. With a \u00a35,000 limit you could transfer up to \u00a34,650, etc.<\/p><p>Provided it\u2019s good news, you\u2019re happy with the estimated credit limit and you want to apply, you can go ahead and do so at this point. You won\u2019t have to put all your details in again (thank goodness) but you will have to agree to a \u201cheard search\u201d of your credit file at this point. That\u2019s standard stuff \u2013 all credit card issuers will want to run a full search before officially offering you credit. It means a small (and usually shortlived) hit to your credit score.<\/p><p>As part of the application process, you can request the balance transfer.
