All drivers are legally required to have at least third party car insurance to be on the UK roads. If you are responsible for causing an accident, you&#8217;ll be protected for damage to third party vehicles or property. You won&#8217;t be protected for any damage to your own car. And don&#8217;t assume this is the cheapest option because it offers the least protection. Sometimes, this cover may work out more expensive than comprehensive. Check each cover level to see which offers the best value for you.<\/p><\/div><div id=\"tab1895\" class=\"tab-pane \"><p><strong>Third party, fire and theft.<\/strong> You&#8217;ll get the same level of cover as third party but this will also provide protection against any fire damage or theft of your car.<\/div><div id=\"tab6878\" class=\"tab-pane \"><strong>Comprehensive.<\/strong><br \/>This is the greatest level of cover on offer and will provide the same protection as the other levels as well as insuring your vehicle against accidental damage and vandalism. These include:<\/p><ul><li>Breakdown cover<\/li><li>Legal protection cover<\/li><li>Excess cover<\/li><\/ul><h3>What policy exclusions are there?<\/h3><p>Any cover arranged through H&#038;R Insurance is likely to become invalid if any of the following arises:<\/p><ul class=\"list-12\"><li>You are paid to carry passengers.<\/li><li>You fail to pay for your premium.<\/li><li>Your car is being driven by an unnamed driver on your policy or by a person that does not have a valid driving licence.<\/li><li>Your car is used for rallies, races or competitions.<\/li><li>You change your car during the policy term to a car that the insurer cannot cover.<\/li><li>You do not provide the correct documents to support your application.<\/li><\/ul><p>Check your policy for further details to confirm your cover is valid.<\/p><h3>How do I make a claim?<\/h3><p>H&#038;R Insurance has a claims department that you can call on 01224 848 388. This line is open Monday &#8211; Friday 9.00am &#8211; 5.00pm. If you need to report a claim outside of these hours, you will need to leave a message in order for a representative to return your call at the earliest opportunity. Alternatively, you can email your claim to the following email address: claims@hrinsure.co.uk.<\/p><p>H&#038;R Insurance recommends you have the following to hand when you make a claim:<\/p><ul><li>Your details and personal contact details.<\/li><li>Details about the incident such as date and time.<\/li><li>Details about the damage to your car and whether it is driveable.<\/li><li>Details of all third parties and their passengers involved in the incident.<\/li><li>Details of all passengers in your car and any witnesses of the incident.<\/li><li>Crime reference number, if relevant.<\/li><li>Name and details of the police officer in attendance.<\/li><\/ul><p>You&#8217;ll need to have your insurance policy details as well as all facts about the incident to hand.<\/p><p>It&#8217;s important that you let your insurer know about an incident as soon as possible, even if it&#8217;s not your fault. A delay in reporting an incident or failure to report it could result in a rejected claim later on.<\/p><h3>What is my excess?<\/h3><p>Your insurance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/car-insurance\/car-insurance-excess\">excess<\/a> is the amount of money you have to pay towards a claim. Your insurer won&#8217;t pay out for a claim that costs less than this amount.<\/p><p>A voluntary excess is normally an amount set by you when taking out a policy. You&#8217;ll have the option of adding or increasing a voluntary excess, which could in turn reduce your premium.<\/p><p>Meanwhile, a compulsory excess amount might vary depending on the age of your car and your driving experience.<\/p><p>You&#8217;ll find details about any compulsory or voluntary excesses in your policy document.<\/p><h3>H&#038;R Insurance customer reviews<\/h3><p>There are no reviews for the company on the platform Trustpilot. There are some reviews on the Review Centre site, but they&#8217;re several years&#8217; old; there&#8217;s a fairly even split between positive and negative reviews. (Last updated: July 2021.)<\/p><h3>H&#038;R Insurance pros and cons<\/h3><div class=\"u-grid\"><\/div><div class=\"u-grid__col u-1\/2@s\"><h4 id=\"Pros\">Pros<\/h4><ul class=\"list-4\"><li>Car cover for a range of budgets.<\/li><li>A range of optional extras to enhance cover.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><div class=\"u-grid__col u-1\/2@s\"><\/div><h4>Cons<\/h4><ul class=\"list-13&gt;&lt;li&gt;The claims line is not 24\/7.&lt;\/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;You will be charged a broker fee to cancel your policy during the 14-day cooling off period.&lt;\/li&gt;&lt;\/ul&gt;[\/fin_grid_col][\/fin_grid]&lt;h3&gt;Our verdict&lt;\/h3&gt;As a broker, the company scours its panel of insurers for a policy it thinks is the best fit for you. Levels of cover and benefits will differ between policies but H &amp; R says most of them provide a courtesy car and European cover as standard.
