That\u2019s a way for them to sound generous while capping how much they actually have to pay out.<\/p><h4>Capital on Tap points<\/h4><p>Technically, you earn \u201crewards points\u201d as you spend on your Capital on Tap card. Each reward point is worth a penny. You get decide how to redeem these points. Choose cahback (lowering your outstanding card balance), gift cards (for the likes of Amazon, Airbnb or John Lewis) or convert them to Avios or Virgin Points (10 Capital on Tap points will get you 10 Avios or 10 Virgin Points).<\/p><h4>Cashback on the Pro card<\/h4><p>If you opt for the \u201cPro\u201d version of the card (\u00a3299 a year), and you <a href=\"#capital_on_tap_preloading\" class=\"scroll\">preload<\/a> your account with funds, you can earn 1.25% cashback on that part of your spending. So if you spent \u00a3500 of preloaded funds (rather than spending from your credit limit), you\u2019d earn \u00a36.25 cashback.<\/p><h3 id=\"capital_on_tap_preloading\" class=\"has-margin-bottom\">Preloading<\/h3><h4>What is preloading?<\/h4><p>\u201cPreloading\u201d is where you pay in funds to your Capital on Tap account, which you can spend before dipping into your credit limit. Capital on Tap launched this \u201cfirst of its kind\u201d feature in 2024 and it makes the Capital on Tap card a hybrid debit\/credit product.<\/p><h4>But why would you want to preload?<\/h4><p>The main benefit is that you get to earn even more cashback \u2013 by spending preloaded funds. You\u2019ll earn at 1% if you\u2019re on the Free plan, and 1.25% if you\u2019re on the Pro plan. Unless you happen to also have a 1% cashback business debit card, this could be a nice extra perk.<\/p><p>You\u2019ll also have greater flexibility in managing your cash flow. For example, let\u2019s say you need to pay \u00a380,000 for something, but your credit limit is only \u00a360,000. You could top up your balance with \u00a320,000 to bridge the gap and make your transaction. The whole transaction can be automatically fed through to your accounting software, keeping life simple!<\/p><h4>How do I use preloading?<\/h4><p>To use this feature, log in to your account, sign the Preloading agreement and then head to the \u201cPayments\u201d tab in your account and click \u201cOne-off Payment Details\u201d. You can add Capital on Tap as a payee in your online banking and then make the transfer.<\/p><h3 id=\"capital_on_tap_non_sterling_spending\" class=\"has-margin-bottom\">Fee-free non-sterling transactions<\/h3><h4>What are non-sterling transactions?<\/h4><p>With most credit or debit cards, you\u2019ll incur a fee (usually about 2.99%) each time you spend in a non-sterling currency. It\u2019s also known as an \u201cFX\u201d or \u201cforex\u201d (foreign exchange) fee.<\/p><p>Historically, only a tiny number of credit cards have waived this, but especially among challenger banks, it\u2019s actually becoming much more commonplace.<\/p><h4>Is 0% FX fees a big deal?<\/h4><p>How much of a benefit this represents will depend on how much your cardholders would use their cards abroad, or how much you spend with businesses overseas. One short hop to New York could easily involve spending the equivalent of \u00a31,000 in dollars while there, and on a traditional card that would mean \u00a329.90 in fees, which is not nothing!<\/p><h4>Any limitations I should know about?<\/h4><p>While it\u2019s not stated in Capital on Tap\u2019s T&amp;Cs, we reached out and were able to confirm that non-sterling trasnactions <u>do<\/u> benefit from the usual \u201cup to 42 days interest-free\u201d that Sterling transactions enjoy (provided you pay off your balance in full each month).<\/p><p>All cardholders on your acount get to enjoy this benefit, and it\u2019s available on both the Free and the Pro plans. Currencies will get converted at standard Visa rates, which you can see live on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visa.co.uk\/support\/consumer\/travel-support\/exchange-rate-calculator.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visa\u2019s calculator<\/a>.<\/p><h4>Top tip for using your Capital on Tap card overseas<\/h4><p>If you take your Capital on Tap card abroad and use it to pay at, say, a restaurant, then if the waiter says \u201cWould you like to pay in dollars or pounds?\u201d, then choose dollars. When Capital on Tap converts the currency for you, it\u2019s fee, but if the restaurant\u2019s bank converts the currency for you, it won\u2019t be.<\/p><h3 id=\"capital_on_tap_virtual_cards\" class=\"has-margin-bottom\">Virtual cards<\/h3><h4>What\u2019s so good about virtual cards?<\/h4><p>All the usual perks and benefits apply whether you\u2019re using a physical Capital on Tap card or a virtual one. But virtual cards can offer a number of additional benefits to SMEs.<\/p><p>In fact, the benefits start from the get-go: you don\u2019t have to wait for for your physical plastic card to arrive, you can get spending as soon as you\u2019re approved. And when it does arrive, you don\u2019t have to carry it around if you don\u2019t want to \u2013 just add it to Google Pay or Apple Wallet and just use your phone instead.<\/p><p>Should you lose your physical card, you\u2019re no longer left high and dry. Simply freeze or cancel it in the app and generate a new virtual card (as well as ordering a replacement physical card if you wish).<\/p><p>That\u2019s actually increasingly standard stuff in 2026, but Capital on Tap\u2019s app (or online portal) makes it easy to go even further with virtual cards, should you wish.<\/p><p>Let\u2019s say you want to sign-up for a subscription \u2013 perhaps for some software \u2013 but you don\u2019t want it to roll on indefinitely. You could quickly generate a virtual card specifically for this subscription. The level of easy control Capital on Tap gives you means that you could <u>set a specific limit on that virtual card<\/u>, or you can even <u>set a specific expiration date for that virtual card \u2013 in advance<\/u>. How great is that?! Jeff Bezos would be furious! If the software provider hikes its monthly fees, they won\u2019t be able to charge you. Scrap it and generate a new one!<\/p><h4>How many virtual Capital on Tap cards can I have?<\/h4><p>Each Capital on Tap cardholder on your account can have up to 5 virtual cards in use at any one time. Depending on which platform you use, that file may be easy for it to ingest (Capital on Tap specifically mentions KashFlow as a platform that\u2019s fine with this export file).<\/p><h4>How do I use this feature?<\/h4><p>It\u2019s straightforward to set up in the \u201cAccounting\u201d area of your app or online portal. Each transaction will get shared more or less instantly with your accounting platform.<\/p><p>It\u2019s even categorised for you depending on the merchant (\u00a380 at Pizza Express? that\u2019ll go down as \u201cMeals\u201d\u2026 \u00a320 at Rymans? that\u2019ll be \u201cOffice supplies\u201d). Don\u2019t worry \u2013 you can override this categorisation if you need to, or you can attach notes to secific transactions. When you use your card, you can snap the receipt on your phone and upload it in the Capital on Tap app if you want to, and it\u2019s automatically attached to that payment in your accounting platform.<\/p><h3 id=\"capital_on_tap_lounge_access\" class=\"has-margin-bottom\">Lounge access (Pro plan)<\/h3><h4>How does it work?<\/h4><p>Lounge access is administered through Priority Pass, which has lounges basically everywhere (more than 1,600 of them). Search up the airport in the \u201cFind a lounge\u201d area of Capital on Tap\u2019s app to see what\u2019s available where you\u2019re headed. You won\u2019t be sent out a physical Priority Pass card (which is a good thing, because when I signed up for an Amex, the accompanying Priority Pass card took a couple of weeks to arrive!). Just show the QR code on your <u>digital<\/u> Priority Pass card (in the \u201cRewards\u201d area of your Capital on Tap app) on the door. <\/p><h4>Is it worth it?<\/h4><p>If you\u2019re thinking of shelling out for the \u00a3299-a-year Pro version of the Capital on Tap card, there\u2019s a decent chance you\u2019re planning to benefit from the unlimited airport lounge access it offers. If you consider that lounge access without a pass might cost you about \u00a335 per visit, then four return trips a year totalling \u00a3280 in lounge entry fees would go a long way (pardon the pun) towards making that annual fee seem worthwhile.
