In 1967 it branched out into insurance and now covers cars, vans, caravans and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/motorbike-insurance\/the-aa\">motorbikes,<\/a> as a broker.<\/p><p>While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/car-insurance\/the-aa\">AA&#8217;s annual car insurance<\/a> is 5-star Defaqto-rated, it has partnered with Tempcover for temporary cover. To get short-term car cover, both you and the car must meet The AA&#8217;s eligibility criteria:<\/p><p>You must:<\/p><ul class=\"list-1\"><li>Be aged between 18 -75<\/li><li>Have held either a current and full UK driver&#8217;s licence for a minimum of six months (European Union driver&#8217;s licence for at least 12 months) or a provisional driving licence<\/li><li>Have been resident in the UK for 12 months or more<\/li><\/ul><p>The car must:<\/p><ul class=\"list-1\"><li>Be registered in Great Britain, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man<\/li><li>Have a market value of less than \u00a365,000<\/li><li>Have no more than eight seats including the driver&#8217;s seat<\/li><li>Be right-hand drive<\/li><li>Not be modified (except for modifications designed to aid disabled drivers)<\/li><li>Not be used to carry goods or passengers for hire or reward<\/li><\/ul><h3 id=\"what_is_my_excess\">What is my excess?<\/h3><p>Your insurance<a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/car-insurance\/car-insurance-excess\"> excess<\/a> is the amount of money you have agreed to pay towards a claim. Your insurer won&#8217;t pay out for a claim that costs less than your excess.
