We look into just how many people in the UK invest, with breakdowns of who is investing and what they have invested in.<\/p><article class=\"luna-card luna-card--shadow\"><div class=\"luna-card__block\"><h3 class=\"luna-sectionTitle\">UK investing statistics: Highlights<\/h3><ul><li>58% of UK adults have invested as of 2026, an estimated 31.7 million people, up from 54% in 2025 and 51% in 2024.<\/li><li>2 in 5 Brits (41%) have invested in stocks and shares as of 2026, making it the most popular investment type.<\/li><li> 7 in 10 adults in generation Z (69%) and two-thirds of millennials (66%) have invested before.<\/li><li>Two-thirds of men (66%) have invested before, compared to less than half (49%) of women.<\/li><li>3 in 4 Londoners (74%) have invested at some point.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/article><h3>How many people invest in the UK?<\/h3><p>In 2026, almost 3 in 5 Brits (58%) have invested \u2013 an estimated 31.7 million people \u2013 an increase from the 54% of Brits who had invested in 2025. This equates to around 22.6 million UK adults.<\/p><p>27% have invested in index funds, while 20% have invested in exchange-traded funds or ETFs. <\/p><p>If you are one of those people \u2013 or you\u2019re considering investing \u2013 it\u2019s worth keeping your allowances before tax in mind. For example, you can use a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/share-trading\/share-trading-guides\/dividend-tax-calculator\">dividend tax calculator<\/a> to work out whether you\u2019ll pay tax on any dividends. <\/p><h3>What are the most common investment types?<\/h3><p>Stocks and shares \u2013 including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finder.com\/uk\/stocks-and-shares-isas\">stocks and shares ISAs<\/a> \u2013 are the most common investment type, followed by bonds, which 29% of UK adults have invested in at some stage. A total of 2,000 people were questioned throughout Great Britain between 9 and 11 February 2026, with representative quotas for gender, age and region. The online survey has a margin of error of \u00b12.2% at a 95% confidence level.
