Where to watch the FA Women’s Super League (FA WSL) 2020/21 season online

Looking to follow your favourite women's football team this season? Here's how you can watch every game.

Football is back with a bang and we’re loving it. Not only is the men’s English Premier League up and running again, but the Women’s Super League (WSL) is too, with plenty of reasons to tune in.

With England’s star player Lucy Bronze returning to Man City, as well as the Women’s FIFA World Cup Bronze Ball winner Rose Lavelle making her debut in the WSL, it’s going to be a sensational season and you don’t want to miss it.

That’s precisely why we’ve put together all the ways you can watch the WSL this season, including some matches that are available for free… don’t say we don’t treat you!

What is the FA WSL?

Similar to the Premier League for men’s football, the Football Association Women’s Super League (FA WSL, or the Barclays FA Women’s Super League for sponsorship reasons) is the highest league of women’s football in England.

It’s beginning to attract top players from all over the world, including Australian Sam Kerr, who signed for last year’s league winners Chelsea, Rose Lavelle, the USA superstar who recently joined title-chasers Man City and England international Lucy Bronze, who is returning to Man City after a successful spell at Lyon.

How can I watch the FA WSL 2020/21 season?

The FA WSL will be more accessible worldwide this season than ever before. The league sealed a deal with Atalanta Media, allowing NBC, DAZN Germany and DAZN Italy to screen WSL matches in the US, Germany and Italy.

A number of games in the UK will also be readily available on BT Sport 2, the BT Sport App and BTSport.com. Should you already be a NOW subscriber, you can get access to the BT Sport App through the NOW Smart TV stick.

Simply put, FA WSL fans can watch matches online on BT Sport through NOW, but the BT Sport app will not be available through the NOW app – you’ll need a streaming stick or box to take advantage of these new perks.

So here’s what you can do:

  • 1. Create an account: Sign up to BT Sport and fill in your name and address details.
  • 2. Get the monthly pass: The BT Sport Monthly Pass (£25 a month) will give you access to all games shown on BT Sport. This is not tied to a contract, so you can watch on a month-by-month basis.
  • 3. NOW Smart Stick: Purchase the NOW Smart Stick for a one-off payment of £24.99 to get access to the BT Sport app through NOW.

What’s the cheapest way to watch the FA WSL?

A number of selected games will also be available through the FA Player, which is free to use – how cool is that?! The only downside is that you’ll miss many of the games being shown on BT Sport if you choose to stick with the FA Player only.

The FA WSL kicked off on Saturday 5 September 2020. The league will conclude on Sunday 9 May 2021, if everything ticks along as planned. Many games were cancelled and postponed last season due to poor pitch conditions and COVID-19.

Which players are the ones to watch?

Below are our top seven players to keep your eye on in the WSL 2020/21 season.

Rose Lavelle
World champion and Bronze Ball winner Rose Lavelle joined Man City at the beginning of the season. She is, without a doubt, one of the best in the world with great vision, great passing and she scores goals. She’s also only 25 years old… watch this space.

Lucy Bronze

Beth England
The Chelsea striker was been named the PFA Women’s Players’ Player of the Year for the 2019/20 season – the 26-year-old scored 21 goals and helped the Blues win the WSL and the League Cup last season. With her keen eye for goal and quality on the ball, she’s always one to watch.

Since making her debut aged just 16, Georgia Stanway is a genuine talent and has made a huge impression at City over the years. She was selected in England’s World Cup squad in 2019 at the age of 21 and won the 2019 PFA Young Player of the Year award. Need we say anymore?

What are the pros and cons of NOW?

  • Day/Week/Month passes. This gives great flexibility. You can just watch one big weekend if you wanted.
  • Great value. If you don’t want to sign up for a whole season, you don’t have to.
  • All BT Sport channels. If you’re a big sports fan, you can watch more than just football by purchasing the NOW Smart Stick.

  • Your pass will roll over if you don’t cancel it. You’ll need to cancel to avoid paying another day, week or month.
  • You can’t watch Sky Sports. You’ll only have access to everything BT Sport has to offer, unless you purchase NOW’s Sky Sports Pass, of course.

How to get the best picture quality with NOW

Here are a few tips to get the best from NOW:

  • Restart your router
  • Restart the TV
  • Reset the TV to factory setting
  • Update your TV software
  • Unplug the TV and plug it back in

Can’t I just watch illegally for free?

You shouldn’t! Here are a few things to remember:

  • It’s poor quality. Streaming often takes ages to buffer, will keep cutting out and is bad picture quality.
  • It risks your computer. All of those pop-ups aren’t doing your laptop much good.
  • It’s illegal. The team at Sky works hard to bring the best coverage to fans. Pay your bit, sit back and enjoy the football!
  • It’s so much easier to just buy it. Save yourself all that trouble and you can just buy a day pass. Problem solved.
