One-third of employees would switch jobs for travel opportunities
A global study shows the number is even higher among millennials.
A global study has highlighted how important it is for businesses to offer travel opportunities to their employees, with 38% of the 17,000 working professionals surveyed admitting they would pursue a new job if it offered more business travel.
Moreover, 37% accepted their current role because of the travel on offer.
The study was conducted by Booking.com for Business and surveyed working professionals from 24 countries, showing that wanderlust isn’t localised.
However, there are some differences among industries and age groups. Almost half of millennials (46%) would pursue a new job if it offered more travel opportunities while a slightly higher percentage of architects and designers (48%) are willing to jump ship for the same reason.
“Having opportunities to travel for business is increasingly prized by working professionals, led by the millennial generation,” said Senior Director of Product Development at Booking.com for Business Ripsy Bandourian.
“And more than ever, business travellers want to maximise their time spent in a business destination for both work and leisure.”
Working professionals that were looking for “bleisure” – combining business with leisure – are primarily wanting to explore a previously unvisited destination (50%). This is closely followed by 46% of those looking to extend their trip through the weekend.
Travel is definitely an investment for businesses, but travel companies are coming up with new ways to serve the demanding market. Startup Airly, for example, is making private jet travel affordable by booking empty legs for savings of up to 80%.
