Story improvements and fast-travel portals coming to No Man’s Sky
The Atlas Rises update marks 12 months since the game’s troubled launch.
The world hasn’t been kind to No Man’s Sky. After an unprecedented hype cycle that left many people convinced it would be the only game they’d ever need to play, the space-faring survival game launched in a rocky state, missing many of the features promised in its early trailers. Given the hordes of angry fans, it’s not surprising that developer Hello Studios has remained practically radio silent for the last 12 months.
That said, Hello Games has hardly been sitting on mounds of cash and chuckling contentedly to itself the way some irate fans seem to think. The developer has been releasing massive updates to No Man’s Sky on a regular basis, adding base-building, farming, ground vehicles and plenty more to the game.
This week, the team will be releasing yet another update, this one focused on improving No Man’s Sky’s story and the way you navigate its world. Titled Atlas Rises, the update promises to make big improvements to the central narrative along with adding the ability to fast-travel between worlds using the previously dormant portals players have poked and prodded at since the game’s launch.
Atlas Rises will be going live for PS4 and PC players later this week. While it’s unlikely this latest patch will undo the damage caused by the game’s turbulent launch, it’s exciting to see Hello Games continue to improve the game so significantly in spite of fan backlash.
