What is Source Bioscience?

Source BioScience is an international COVID test provider with its HQ in the UK. It offers a range of services including employee testing and home tests.

Source Bioscience is on the UK government’s lists of private providers of COVID tests for travel – it’s on the list for providers of day 2 and day 8 tests, as well as for day 5 (under the Test to Release scheme – only in England) and the general list. This means that the company meets minimum standards for all these test types.

What types of COVID-19 tests can I get from Source Bioscience?

Source Bioscience provides both lateral flow and PCR tests. It offers day 2 and 8 PCR tests, as well as day 5 tests (for England only). It also sells lateral flow (antigen) fit to fly tests. You can test at home using the self-swab kits.

Source Bioscience customer reviews

According to over 100 reviews on Trustpilot, Source Bioscience offers good service – it has an overall rating of 4 stars out of 5. More than 70% of its reviews rate the company “Excellent” with many reviews finding it reliable and helpful, and some commending its customer care and quick email responses.

There have been a few bad reviews, though. Some reviewers state they’re unable to view their test results due to a lack of a reference number for the test. That said, under each complaint, Source Bioscience has responded, and there is a customer support team.

Are Source Bioscience tests accurate?

Information on the accuracy of Source Bioscience tests is not readily available. Source Bioscience states its tests adhere to the “Gold Standard” of accuracy of a diagnostic test – but it fails to explain exactly what this means in its frequently asked questions.

All COVID-19 test providers listed on the UK government website have to have “demonstrated compliance with the applicable minimum standards” and at least be going through the 3-stage accreditation by UKAS, the government-appointed accreditation body.

But remember, no COVID-19 test is 100% accurate, even those that meet official standards for performance and safety.

How long does it take to get results from Source Bioscience?

Results should be available within 24 hours of Source Bioscience receiving your PCR sample in the lab. You get notified when the results are released so that you can log in and view your result.

What is Source Bioscience’s refund policy?

If you haven’t opened the test then the company says you may get a refund. You should get your money back within 14 days.

How much do Source Bioscience tests cost?

A PCR test for day 2 is £35 and for both day 2 and 8 is £70. A lateral flow test is £19.50.

Pros and cons of Source Bioscience

Pros

  • Government-listed COVID-19 test provider
  • Relatively inexpensive, with free shipping
  • Refund process for unopened tests
  • Quick turnaround promised, from shipping to receiving results
  • Reviews generally praise customer service

Cons

  • Can’t do the test at the airport
  • Denies liability for any delays in delivery

Our verdict: Is Source Bioscience any good?

Source Bioscience appears to be generally well regarded by its users and the results turnaround seems to be typically fast. A few customers have complained about not being able to access their results or delays in receiving the tests. Despite the criticism, Source Bioscience has responded to 100% of negative reviews on Trustpilot, typically in less than 24 hours, indicating that it takes customer service seriously.

Several test providers on the government’s list say they use Source Bioscience as their lab, which is also a good sign.

The company says it won’t accept liability for any delays in the delivery process. This means that, for example, if you don’t receive a fit to fly test in time and have to fork out for another one, the company would not compensate you. But overall, £35 for a PCR test with free shipping is pretty good – just give yourself plenty of time.
