In this review, we look at Qured, a popular COVID test supplier, to see what tests are available and what customers say about the service.
Qured provides COVID tests for travel and is on the government’s list of private COVID test providers. This means the tests meet the minimum required standards for safety and performance.
If you’re flying with British Airways, you can get a discount on Qured COVID tests through the airline.
Qured supplies all the tests travellers might need for a trip to low-risk countries from the UK. At the moment this is its “fit to fly” tests.
If your order is cancelled by 4.30pm the day before delivery by courier, Qured will offer a full refund. If you miss these deadlines, your refund will be minus 25% for an administration and restocking charge.
A quick scan of Trustpilot reveals mainly positive Qured reviews, with an overall rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars. Customers liked the ease of ordering tests and the quick return of results.
They also appreciated Qured’s video call service with a health adviser, who oversees you taking pre-departure rapid antigen tests before you return to the UK.
Less favourable reviews of Qured were found on the NHS website, where disgruntled customers complained about late test results and poor customer service (last updated: January 2022).
Like other government-listed COVID test providers, Qured’s test results should be fairly accurate. The company website claims all Qured tests have passed evaluation by Public Health England, and that the lateral flow/rapid antigen tests have a sensitivity of at least 96.4% and a specificity of at least 99.5%.
If you’re doing a rapid antigen test you can get the results within 20 minutes. You simply schedule a call with a Qured health adviser who talks you through taking the test and uploading proof of your results.
If you’re doing a PCR test, you can work out when you need to take your test using Qured’s Travel Calculator. A test usually takes 24 hours to be delivered to your home by post, or it can be delivered quicker by courier if you live within the M25.
Once you’ve taken the test you return it via a priority postbox or give it straight back to your courier. Test results should be available within 24-36 hours of the laboratory receiving your sample.
Lateral flow tests that you can take with you on holiday and use before setting off to return cost from £22. Individual PCR tests start from £69.
Qured has lots going for it. We particularly like the video call service with a health adviser if you’re taking a rapid antigen test while abroad. The Travel Calculator is also really useful, to help you figure out when you need to order tests and how quickly your results will be processed.
On the downside, unlike some other test providers, there’s no guarantee of when your PCR results will be ready and there are no test centres for you to go to for peace of mind. Qured relies on the postal service and couriers for the delivery of its tests and results, meaning there could be delays.
Overall, we reckon Qured is worth considering if you’re organised and leave plenty of time between ordering your COVID tests and going abroad. The online ordering process is straightforward and the tests aren’t too expensive when compared to other providers.
