Heist Tights review 2020

The tights for people who hate tights.

Fact checked

Every woman knows how difficult it is to find a pair of tights that fit right, without them laddering, falling down or going baggy at the knees. This is exactly why Heist was born.

The company, which claims to offer quality hosiery, refers to its products as revolutionary thanks to adaptive waistbands and seamless designs in high and low waist styles.

But are they really worth the money? We put the company’s Fifty tights (black, opaque and matte) to the test.

How are they different?

The first thing I noticed about this product was the packaging. Once you’ve opened the pastel pink outer box, you’re welcomed to the Heist family with a luxe black case, featuring an embossed design and tissue paper. It makes you feel like you’ve treated yourself to something much fancier than a bog-standard pair of tights.

But it’s only when you try the tights on that you realise how different they really are. It’s like putting on your favourite pair of gym leggings, with a stretchy waistband at the top that keeps everything tucked in nicely. But the most impressive part is the softness. Heist uses a high thread count, with 5,000 spirals per inch of yarn, which is roughly 10 times higher than an average pair of high street tights.

There’s also no annoying centre seam on the toe area or in the gusset. In fact, the only seams on Heist tights are at the base of your foot so that they don’t snag against your toenails or ride up uncomfortably. You won’t have to worry about a saggy bum or your tights falling down either, since the high stretchy waistband keeps everything in place.

What is the sizing like?

I tried a pair in a UK 10 (usually a size 8), which were nicely snug and fit comfortably.

How much do they cost?

At £22 a pair there’s no denying that Heist tights are quite pricey when compared to traditional tights – but Heist doesn’t market itself as a traditional brand.

These are luxury tights that you’ll love jumping into for everyday wear, which makes them a pretty safe and sensible investment. There’s good news if you’re a student too – you can get a 10% student discount when you buy!

How long do they last?

Only time will tell, but all seems well after one wash. You’ll see from the detailed washing instructions that machine washing is permitted, but you’re recommended to handwash the product to ensure no nasty rips or snags.

If for some reason your tights do tear or you’re not happy with the service, you are entitled to a 100-day guarantee or your money back.

Where can I buy them?

Online at Heist. There’s a range of styles available, including opaque, sheer and nude tights, with either high or low waistbands, all of which are handsewn in Italy.

At a glance

  • Unbelievably comfy and perfect for everyday wearing.
  • Flattering for your figure.
  • Longer-lasting than traditional tights.
  • Try-before-you-buy scheme.

  • Sizes are given in dress sizes, rather than being based on height and weight.
  • The high waistband is a revelation, but it can be uncomfortable if you pick the wrong size. If in doubt, size up.
  • More expensive than other tights at £22 a pair.

What’s the verdict?

While they are expensive compared to traditional tights, Heist has created a product that will last you longer. This means you won’t be buying a new pair of tights every winter. Think of them as an investment.

The tights are also lovely and soft, which means you’re likely to wear them more regularly and get your money’s worth. It goes without saying that they’re fairly flattering too, holding you in in all the right places, which makes them a pleasure to put on under slim-fitting clothing.

But if you can’t quite afford the £22 fee, there are other options out there. While they may not offer quite the same benefits, M&S and hosiery brand Snag do sell a range of soft, comfortable pairs at a cheaper price.
