Round 1: Performance

Dyson V7 TriggerGtech Multi MK2 K9
Hard surface cleaning★★★★★★★★★★
Carpet cleaning★★★★★★★★★★
Pet hair cleaning★★★★★★★★★★
Crevice cleaning★★★★★★★★★★
Finder rating★★★★★★★★★★

The Dyson takes this round… just. It annihilated pet hair on normal mode on carpet and floors with the motorised tool – MAX mode made pick-up quicker. The MK2 K9 also did a good job, but it left small strands behind after 3 sweeps. The MK2 K9 never clogged up, whatever we threw at it. The Dyson rarely clogged up, but it did do so in our cereal test. MAX mode tears through larger mounds, but quickly depleted the battery. Both are excellent at cleaning crevices.

Winner: Dyson

Round 2: Convenience

Capacity (litres)0.540.4
Dirt release button
Charging dock
Convenience★★★★★★★★★★

Both have an excellent capacity so you can clean a lot in one go. However, the MK2 K9 cannot be emptied automatically, whereas the V7 has a tab which unloads all the dust. Neither has a charging dock and both struggle if you’re cleaning in a tight spot due to their large size.

Winner: Dyson

Round 3: Charge time and run time

Dyson V7 TriggerGtech Multi MK2 K9
Charge time (hours)3.54
Run time (minutes)3020

The Dyson has the best charge to run time out of any heldheld we’ve reviewed. With MAX mode it gets chopped down to 6 minutes, however. Gtech doesn’t fare too badly either. Both can be used to clean multiple rooms and your entire car.

Winner: Dyson

Overall winner: Dyson V7 Trigger

Dyson does it again. It’s slightly more expensive than the Gtech but it excels in nearly every cleaning department, has a fab capacity, exceeds the average run time and is so easy to use. That said, don’t knock the Gtech K9. It also performs admirably and is one of the best alternatives out there.
