If you have existing credit card debt and you’re looking to reduce the amount of interest you’re paying, a balance transfer deal could be a good idea.

Clydesdale Bank’s Gold Mastercard offers an introductory 12 months’ 0% interest on balances that you transfer to the new card. It might not be the longest 0% deal on the market, but crucially, the interest rate that your transferred balance reverts to at the end of the 0% period is unusually low. You should aim to clear your outstanding balance before the 0% period ends, but if there’s a chance you might not manage to, this card’s revert rate is less punishing than many on the market.

There’s also an introductory 0% deal on purchases you make using the card, so if you need to use the card for any major upcoming expenditure, you can spread the cost without incurring interest (at least for the first 26 months from account opening).

As this card is on the Mastercard network, it’s accepted in more than 35 million locations worldwide. You’ll also be able to enjoy access to Priceless Cities experiences.

Repayment options

When it comes to repayments, you can make manual repayments online or over the phone (0800 678 3320), or alternatively set up a direct debit. A direct debit is a great idea because it protects you from forgetting to make a repayment and either damaging your credit score, getting hit with a penalty fee or losing any promotional rates as a result. You can arrange a direct debit for repayments when you apply for the credit card. The table below shows the options available.

Choose from the following direct debit options for your monthly repayments:
