At the moment, it is illegal to use your own electric scooter on the roads or the paths in the UK. However, from July 4 electric scooters can be hired for use on the roads. This means scooters that you buy or privately own cannot be used to get from A to B at the moment so don’t do it! But you can choose to hire one after July 4. There is a chance the rules on privately owned scooters are likely to change in the near future though, with an increasing number of people keen to avoid public transport, especially in big cities, and more of us encouraged to walk, cycle or take alternative modes of transport.
