Who is Cycle Plan?

Cycle Plan recognised the limitations of home insurance policies when it came to insuring bikes, and decided to step in to provide specialist bike insurance. It’s a UK-based company that’s been part of Ripe Insurance since 2013.

What are my cover options with Cycle Plan?

Cycle Plan offers specialist bicycle insurance policies, covering a wide range of bike models from mountain bikes to racing bikes.

Cycle Plan lets you choose either equipment cover or public liability cover as stand-alone policies, or you can combine them under one policy. Then you can add several optional extras.

Your bike and accessories are protected against theft, loss and accidental damage. You can add multiple bikes onto one policy up to the value of £30,000.

You can choose this as a stand-alone cover option.

Cycle Plan’s public liability cover protects your for legal expenses if you accidentally injure another person or damage someone’s property and they take you to court.

You can choose this as a stand-alone cover option.

You’re covered if you have an accident while cycling and need medical help abroad.

  • Accessories. This covers your cycling accessories for theft, loss and damage.
  • Legal expenses cover. If you’re involved in a road accident, legal expenses insurance can cover the cost of a civil claim.
  • Replacement bicycle hire. This covers the cost of hiring a replacement bike should you need to during a claim. A good add-on if you use you bike for commuting.
  • Personal accident. Cover if you’re involved in an accident which results in your permanent disablement or death.
  • Loss of earnings. Protects you if you become injured whilst cycling and are unable to work.
  • Competitive use. Cover whilst competing in an organised race.
  • European cover – multi trip. Going on a cycling holiday in Europe? You can use this add-on to cover you there.
  • Worldwide cover – multi-trip. Cover your bike anywhere in the world with this optional extra.
  • Excess waiver. Waive your excess in the event you need to claim.

What is covered under my policy?

Under your policy, you are covered for the following:

  • Theft of your bicycle from your home or away from home
  • Theft of your bicycle from a vehicle
  • Accidental damage to your bicycle
  • Malicious damage to your bicycle
  • ‘New for Old’ replacement cover
  • Accidental death, disease, mental or physical injury to another person
  • Damage to another person’s property
  • Any injury sustained by you during an accident, including broken bones
  • Accidental death
  • Temporary or permanent disablement
  • Physiotherapy
  • Hospitalisation
  • Emergency dental expenses

How much is my excess?

Your excess is the amount of money that you’ll have to contribute if you make a claim. The cost of your excess will depend on a number of factors including the circumstances behind your claim i.e. you’re bike is stolen, damaged, or you’re claiming for damaging someone else’s property. The value of your bike will also be taken into consideration when it comes to your excess payment.

It’s worth noting that Cycle Plan offers an optional extra which allows you to waive your excess in the event of a claim.
