What types of life insurance coverage does TruStage offer?

TruStage offers all of the standard coverages, including:

  • Term life insurance.
This is TruStage’s most affordable option with its highest max coverage amount — up to $300,000. But you can’t be older than 69 to apply and it expires when you reach 80 years old. Premiums increase every five years.
  • Whole life insurance.
Applicants younger than 85 can apply for this permanent protection with no medical exam and only a few questions. And you can lock in your premiums so your payments won’t increase over time. The max coverage amount is $100,000.
  • Guaranteed whole life insurance.
This coverage allows applicants 45 to 80 years old to apply with no medical exam and no questions. However, the max coverage amount is only $25,000.

What riders can I add to my life insurance policy?

TruSage offers bare-bones policies and no rider add-ons are listed on its website.

How much does TruStage cost?

The cost of your life insurance is influenced by several factors, including what type of coverage you are applying for — term, whole or guaranteed — your gender, age and the coverage amount. For example, a female 35 to 39 years old applying for term life insurance with a coverage amount of $100,000 would pay $28.50 a month.

How can I get the lowest rate?

In addition to your coverage amount, age and gender, your rate is also determined by your health. So, the best rates go to those who are generally healthy and don’t use nicotine. Although TruStage doesn’t require a medical exam, you will be prompted to answer a few questions about your health. Topics include:

  • Major illnesses in the past five years
  • Exposure to the HIV infection
  • Chronic illness

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Guarantee. TruStage provides a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Cancel your policy during the first 30 days if you’re not happy and get a full refund.
  • Solid reputation. You can feel confident in your policy due to TruStage’s “A” Excellent rating by A.M. Best.
  • No medical exam. With all three policies, there is no medical exam required.
  • Borrow against your policy. Policyholders can borrow against the cash value of their policy. Any unpaid balance on the loan is subtracted from the death benefit.

Cons

  • Limited riders. TruStage doesn’t advertise riders on its website.
  • Low coverage amount. TruStage caps coverage amounts at $300,000. If you need a policy that pays out over that amount, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

More about TruStage

Although the TruStage brand was trademarked in 2010, as part of CUNA Mutual Group, it has been providing its services for 80 years. In addition to life insurance, TruStage offers car insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, property insurance and health insurance.

Bottom line

TruStage offers affordable life insurance options, including term, life and guaranteed policies. And because TruStage accesses your prescription records to assess your health, there’s no medical exam. When making such a big decision, weigh your options to get the right policy that meets your needs.
