Today’s top US stocks: Occidental Petroleum (OXY ↑6.8%), Diamondback Energy (FANG ↑6.8%)

Top performer badges in trading today go to Occidental Petroleum Corp (OXY, up 6.8%) and Diamondback Energy Inc (FANG, up 6.8%).

After a particularly volatile week for the stock market, the Dow Jones Industrial Average kicked Monday off a positive note, gaining 71.37 to end at 34,869.37. The Nasdaq, however, gave up 77.73 to close at 14,969.97. The S&P 500 slipped 12.37 to close at 4,443.11.

Occidental Petroleum Corp (OXY) was the largest gainer today.

Shares in the company rose 6.8% to $30.02.

“Oil prices continue to surge, and this is bad news for consumers, particularly those in Europe who may be facing a crisis this winter. But it’s good news for oil stocks,” said Sheri Bechtel, editor for Finder’s US share trading and investing team. “US crude oil futures were up 2% today at $75.45 a barrel.”

Second place for market gainers went to Diamondback Energy Inc (FANG), a Nasdaq company.

It rose 6.8% to reach $94.74.
