The best performing companies in trading today were General Mills (GIS, up 6.5%) and Idexx Laboratories (IDXX, up 3.1%).
On the whole the market was mixed and mild. The Dow gained a fraction of a percent while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite slipped by fractions.

General Mills Inc. (GIS) was the top gainer today.
Shares in the company rose 6.5% to $74.84.
“The company beat on earnings and raised its dividend, and the stock hit a new all-time high, showing why consumer staples are attractive in the current economy,” said Finder Finance News Editor Ron Prichard.

Second place for market gainers went to Idexx Laboratories Inc. IDXX). The NASDAQ company rose 3.1% to reach $359.95, benefitting from a positive earnings report in its sector.
