The best performing stocks on the NYSE and Nasdaq today were Gold Fields Limited ADRs (GFI, up 8.9%) and EQT Corporation (EQT, up 5.8%).
US equities ended the day lower after a long Easter weekend as investors look to a week of earnings results that may offer clues on the impact of hot inflation and the war in Ukraine on corporate profits. The S&P 500 lost 1 point, Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 40 points and the Nasdaq Composite declined 19 points.

Gold Fields Limited ADRs (GFI) was the top gainer today. The company’s American depositary receipts rose8.9% to $16.73. Gold miners benefitted from the rally in the precious metal. Investors are seeking safety in bullion amid increasing risks of a recession, Luzi Ann Javier, a markets editor at Finder, said.
In second spot for market gains was EQT, the NYSE company.
It rose 5.8% to reach $44.81. The natural gas producer rallied as prices of the fuel climbed amid a global supply crunch.
