Avis Budget Group Inc (CAR) was the standout gainer today.
Shares in the company rose 180.8% to $481.50.
“Avis was the stock of the day, with strong third-quarter earnings beating expectations,” said Sheri Bechtel, editor for Finder’s US share trading and investing team. “The earnings only show part of the picture, though. The company’s board greenlighted $1 billion in share buybacks, which could fuel further rallies for the stock. Hedge funds have shorted Avis, so the earnings news, coupled with some news about adding electric vehicles to Avis’s fleet, made for some serious movement today. But it’s important to let the dust settle before deciding to buy. Headlines can lead to serious volatility.”
Second place for market gainers went to Arista Networks Inc (ANET), the NYSE company.
It rose 24.0% to reach $506.57.
