The best-performing companies in trading today were Anthem Inc (ANTM, up 6.9%) and Canadian National Railway Co (CNI, up 5.9%).

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 152.03 Wednesday to close at 35,609.34 while the Nasdaq slipped 7.41 to close at 15,121.68. The S&P 500 index edged 16.56 higher to settle at 4,536.19.

Anthem Inc (ANTM) was the dominant gainer today.

Shares in the company rose 6.9% to $420.99.
