From celebrity tweets to viral clips such as the one of Paris Hilton on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon,” NFTs were all the craze in 2021 and show no sign of dwindling anytime soon. We’re seeing some of the biggest names in Hollywood rushing aboard the NFT hype train, tokenizing everything from music to artwork.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 celebrities who nailed their NFT drops and gained recognition from the NFT community:

Snoop Dogg

With The Doggfather’s history as an entrepreneur and connoisseur of internet culture, it’s no surprise that the American rapper is a proponent of cryptocurrency and NFTs.

Before participating in the NFT community, Snoop Dogg was an early promoter of Dogecoin. In February 2022, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” artist rallied alongside fellow DOGE supporters Elon Musk and Gene Simmons in tweeting Shiba Inu memes, pumping the price of the meme coin by more than 55% over one weekend.

In April 2021, Dogg made his debut into the NFT space known with the announcement of an exclusive drop via Crypto.com. The collection, “A Journey with the Dogg,” features Snoop’s memories from his early years, NFT-inspired artwork, an original track called “NFT” and “Snoop Dogge Coins.” One of the pieces, titled “Death Row,” sold for $108,000.

Last September, Dogg revealed that he’s accumulated valuable NFT assets under the pseudonym Cozomo de’ Medici. The entire collection is valued at around $17 million.

Grimes

Musician Grimes is one of the first celebrities to have made out big with NFTs in 2021 before the general public even caught wind of non-fungible tokens.

In March 2021, The Verge reported that Grimes raked in at least $6 million from the sale of her “WarNymph” collection — which depicts an army of winged space babies — on Nifty Gateway.

“In the 10 years I’ve been making music… six albums, and all those advances… in one drop last year in NFTs, I made more money,” said Aoki at a private Gala Games Music platform launch.

Her debut collection, “Planet Paris,” was a collaboration with crypto artist Blake Kathryn, which features soft, colorful 3D portraits and landscapes. Paris’ collection sold out immediately during its launch on Nifty Gateway in April 2021. She has since worked on several other collections, including her own metaverse business on Roblox.

Jay Chou

In December 2021, Mandopop megastar and pop culture behemoth Jay Chou posted a “PhantaBear NFT” on his Instagram. His endorsement for the NFT project immediately skyrocketed the number of PhantaBear transactions and made it known that Asian culture is entering the field.

However, Chou later clarified that he isn’t part of the development team or working on the platform, but the project is a collaboration between Ezek.io and PHANTACi, the Taiwanese fashion brand that Chou founded.

Ozzy Osbourne

In January 2022, the Prince of Darkness dived into the world of NFTs with the announcement of his project “CryptoBatz,” which was inspired by the infamous moment he bit off a bat’s head during a 1982 Black Sabbath performance in Des Moines, Iowa.

Weird, but the “CryptoBatz” project is actually pretty innovative. Each Cryptobat comes with a one-off opportunity to “bite” another NFT from the collector’s wallet to spawn an additional “MutantBatz” NFT, which will carry traits from both projects.

Johnny Depp

Before acting and music became the foundation of his fame, art has always been an important avenue for Johnny Depp to unleash his creativity.

With the recent hero’s reception he received for his music with Hollywood Vampires, Depp was further encouraged to share his art through NFTs.

His “Never Fear Truth” NFT collection is made up of over 10,000 unique digital paintings of friends and personal heroes, and 25% of all proceeds from the sales will be donated to a variety of charities, including the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
