History of Al Cabones Collection

Gangsters are scary. Skeletons are spooky. Al Cabones is the NFT project that dares to combine them, creating avatar NFTs based on the Ethereum blockchain. Brave NFT aficionados snapped up the initial release, with the presale of 3,000 selling out in 6 minutes at 0.03 ETH and the public sale of the final 7,000 selling out at 0.06 ETH. Al Cabones at one point were changing hands for more than US$20,000. However, holders got a nasty surprise when the team announced there was a security loophole in the smart contracts underpinning the NFT, recalling all tokens issued. Users had to pay gas fees for an additional unplanned transaction, which combined with some poor comms and user issues revealing their new NFTs led to some very negative reactions on social media. A seemingly arbitrary deadline imposed by the developers only added to the anger. However, at the time of writing (8 October 2021), the team was conducting giveaways on social media, but it would appear that the reputational damage has been done and the value and trading volumes of Al Cabones are at present nowhere near their peak.

How to buy on OpenSea

  3. Transfer ETH to a web3 wallet
MetaMask is a popular web3 wallet option, and our guide on MetaMask has detailed instructions on how to make the transfer.
  4. Buy your NFT
When you're ready to make your purchase, click the "Buy Now" button on the specific NFT you're interested in. OpenSea will show you the total cost, including fees, and after purchasing be sure to approve the transaction in your MetaMask wallet.

Holders of Al Cabones receive full commercial rights over the image, with the team promising further perks and benefits down the road in addition to the ETH prizes, airdrops and customisable weapons promised in their roadmap.

The promotional material claims the various factions are set to “go to war soon”, but it’s not clear what this will entail.

The development team says they are “in discussions with several popular communities in the NFT space” about a potential collaboration, but details are scarce.

However, there is a huge caveat in that the development team’s handling of the security problem and subsequent recall burning a lot of goodwill in the NFT community.

At the time of writing, OpenSea lists 9,400 Al Cabones owned by 3,500 accounts.
