The Book of Everyone

You’re busy, stressed and having trouble coming up with a great birthday gift idea. Gift cards are handy, but impersonal. Electronics are expensive and become obsolete soon after you get them. Edible gifts are forgotten after they’re enjoyed. What can you do to celebrate your loved one’s latest trip around the sun and show them you care?

In about the same amount of time it takes you to decide on a gift card from the massive display at the grocery store, you can create a keepsake book filled with stunning art, goofy trivia and quirky quotes. Offer words of wisdom, inside jokes and unforgettable memories with photos, complete with your loved one’s name on the cover.

What is The Book of Everyone?

Steve Hanson bought all the newspapers on the day his son was born as a keepsake for his 21st birthday. That project inspired The Book of Everyone, a personalized birthday book for everyone from moms to romantic partners to coworkers to BFFs, because according to the masterminds behind this delightful brand, “Everybody deserves a book with their name on it.” You can add photos, a dedication and swap out text to personalize the book for your special someone.

What sets this brand apart?

Each book is created from over 150,000 stunning art and text pieces along with your own personal touches throughout, making each keepsake book a one-of-a-kind treasure sure to continue delivering warm-and-fuzzy feelings long after your recipient has received it.

Not only does your friend or loved one get a uniquely personalized book, but they also get a virtual ant named after them in The Colony, The Book of Everyone’s virtual ant farm (which I find stupidly adorable despite being utterly creeped out by ants).

The Book of Everyone’s website also features fun digital freebies where you can create a “word heart” for you and your honey, a snowflake or shamrock designed using your name or a virtual billboard to celebrate a special someone, all of which can be shared via email or on your favorite social media platform.

The Book of Everyone also has a soft spot for kids. £1 or $1.50 from the purchase of every Wise(ish) Words book goes to WellChild, a UK charity that supports and empowers families of seriously ill children so they can thrive at home.

What do people really say about this brand?

Overwhelming positive reviews tote The Book of Everyone as a delightfully unique gift option for that person who has everything. The occasional critical reviews typically stem from customer error with incorrect birth dates or spelling, and those who’d like the option of adding, deleting or swapping page orders.

The Book of Everyone has a fun blog with posts on holidays, monthly birthdays and more. You can also sign up for monthly goodies from the brand-proclaimed “mildly entertaining” newsletter, and follow the brand on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. If you utilize multiple social media platforms but you’re not a fan of repeat feeds, you’ll find both the Twitter and Instagram accounts share virtually identical posts.

Pros and cons

  • Unique, personalized gifts. Forget keychains with your BFF’s name on it — your bestie deserves a book with their name on it, and they also deserve to know that they share 50% of their DNA with a banana, because that’s important.
  • Super-quick and easy. It may sound like it takes hours to put together 50 pages of fun facts extolling the virtues of your main squeeze, but you can make a brilliantly funny, heartwarming gift for your sweetheart in less time than it takes to wolf down a bowl of cereal.
  • Fun extras. After purchasing a personalized book, you can upload a video to the recipient’s “giftbox.” You’ll also get a link to share with others who want to add a video, too — great for including family members or colleagues. Your recipient can use the special code at the end of the book to access the video. They can also use this code to locate their virtual ant in the Book of Everyone ant farm! (Warning: It’s easy to lose track of time watching your virtual ant run around on the screen, doing important ant stuff.)

  • A tad pricey. A paperback personalized book in the US will set you back $35, so if you have several loved ones celebrating birthdays in the same month, it could put a dent in your budget. That being said, users state that the production quality, uniquely personalized nature, giggle-worthy trivia and gorgeous artwork make each book a beautiful keepsake your recipient is bound to treasure for years to come. You can’t necessarily say the same for monogrammed dish towels.
  • It’s easy (and costly) to make a mistake. While the process of making a personalized book for Mama is super quick, if you accidentally enter the wrong birthdate or make a spelling error in her name, and discover this after the printing process has begun (or — eep! — after she received her gift), a reprint costs 50% of your original price.
  • You can’t swap out pages or add pages. While you can personalize any of the pages that have a pencil icon, due to the fixed format of the book, you can’t move pages around or change the number of pages.

Bottom line

In the sea of overwhelming gift options, it can be difficult to find one someone will enjoy for more than a few minutes. With easy-to-edit, beautifully designed keepsake books from The Book of Everyone, you can create a gift for your friend or loved one that’s as special as they are. Filled with fanciful artwork, fun factoids, world events from the day they were born and your own treasured memories — it’s so easy to purchase, you can personalize and buy this book on your coffee break.
