TLOS, is the native cryptocurrency coin of the Telos open-source blockchain. The Telos blockchain aims to provide a smart contract enabled blockchain capable of deploying a wide variety of decentralized applications (dApps), alongside offering feeless transactions.
After launching in 2018, the blockchain has been working towards enabling the next set of Web 3.0 applications. It is now one of the very few blockchains to offer both Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and EOSIO smart contract capabilities.
The blockchain employs a Delegated-Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism which allows it to offer a range of benefits in comparison to competing blockchains. According to the Telos blockchain blog, thanks to its 21 rotational validator network Telos can provide a block time that is 24 times quicker than Ethereum and is 17,000 times more energy-efficient. It can also offer feeless transactions for end-users and complete up to 10,000 transactions per second (tps). TLOS is a crucial part of the Telos ecosystem. The coin powers and secures the Telos blockchain and provides the reward mechanism for stakers that support the Telos network. In addition to supporting the Telos blockchain, the coin can be utilised by developers to make the experience for end-users much more enjoyable. DApp developers can purchase or rent TLOS coins to remove the cost of transaction fees within a specific application. It is the project’s belief that by removing transaction fees the likelihood of user adoption becomes much higher.
