Sipher is an upcoming multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game with NFTs and play-to-earn opportunities — which the developers call "play AND earn." Sipher will also have PvE and PvP with a co-op mode, and its alpha release is set to launch soon.
Sipher is an upcoming crypto game created as part of the Sipher metaverse where players control cybernetic organisms called "Siphers."
Each player participates through their ownership of a Sipher, and each Sipher is represented as an NFT. You own your Siphers outright and can also acquire other in-game assets through gameplay.
The World of Sipher, or World of Sipheria, adopts a cyberpunk style. Players can participate in competitions, trade within the game and acquire land. The world will grow and evolve with time, and players can grow with it.
Sipher is placing itself in many genres: cyberpunk, PvE and PvP, MOBA and a little dash of RPG. Your character acts as your avatar as you explore, battle, socialize and invest in the game. It also defines itself as an "ambitious causal-fighting and exploration game."
As of July 2022, there are over 175,000 members of the Sipher Discord community. The following is quite impressive, considering the game isn't even out yet. For comparison, Splinterlands' Discord channel has around 175,000 members — and that game has been out since March 2021.
There's no date advertised for its alpha launch, but Sipher did have a public token sale in December 2021.
Sipher doesn't have an active demo ready to play yet but promises a range of features for its gameplay. You'll need an Ather Account and only one Sipher NFT to play.
Sipher will incorporate community-generated content and a "casual to start, hard to master" philosophy. There will be a focus on advancing the skills of your character for use on expeditions that promise rewards.
In terms of actual gameplay, it looks like a traditional top-down, point-and-click MOBA with lanes, featuring unique and colorful characters. And the game looks very fast-paced, based on the trailer and in-development gameplay footage.
Some features outlined for Sipher include:
Sipher will be making use of its own token: SIPHER. It will be used as an in-game currency that can also be staked to earn more SIPHER tokens and other in-game rewards. You can use SIPHER tokens to buy other in-game assets and participate in the governance of Sipher.
Sipher states that the only way to get the SIPHER token is by swapping Ethereum (ETH) on UniSwap or KyberSwap. Additionally, Sipher characters are set to be purchased using ETH.
It looks like SIPHER may not be available to purchase on an exchange in the US.
You can still purchase SIPHER by using a decentralized exchange (DEX) instead. Decentralized exchanges are web applications that run on blockchains like Ethereum and allow users to trade any asset directly with one another.
Decentralized exchanges (DEX) are unregulated and run using autonomous pieces of code known as smart contracts. To use a DEX you must interact with the blockchain directly, which is not recommended for novice users. Please learn about decentralized exchanges first if you're unfamiliar.
You can follow the same process when you want to sell your tokens, or come back to this page to see if they can now be traded on an exchange in the US.
There are various ways that you can earn while you play Sipher:
NFTs on Sipher are representations of in-game digital assets. The most crucial NFTs on Sipher are the characters.
The characters are the players' avatars and are necessary for participation in the game. The Sipher creators are inspired to make the game as engaging as possible. Eventually, you'll be able to own almost every aspect of the game, even trees and stones.
The most valuable Sipher NFTs to date are the Genesis Sipher characters, which give unique benefits to the holder. Just a few benefits include:
You can buy secondary Sipher NFTs on OpenSea right now, or directly from Sipher during drops. When Sipher dropped the Sipherian Surge collection — a Shiba Inu dog character — it sold out within minutes.
To buy on OpenSea, you can head to OpenSea directly or be redirected to the Sipherian Surge collection by selecting VIEW ON MARKETPLACE on Sipher's homepage. There is also the Sipherian Flash collection, featuring the cat character, Neko.
Once you've arrived to the collection of your choice, follow these steps to buy a Sipher NFT:
Here's how to sell your Sipher NFTs on OpenSea:
You can monitor your active listings by selecting the Activity tab. Note that OpenSea charges a fee for first-time listings.
Sipher's development is being led by Nguyen Trung Tin, the founder and CEO. The team is based out of Vietnam, and two Kyber Network founders work as Sipher founding advisors as well.
The game has multiple investors, including Definance Capital, Coin98 Ventures and Kyber Network, just to name a few. The co-lead investor is Hashed, known for investing in Axie Infinity in the early days, as reported by Forbes.
As mentioned, the game already has an impressive following. And given its many investors and mega success of its first NFT batch launch, things are looking good for Sipher.
We're still waiting for the alpha launch, and there's no official roadmap at the time of writing.
However, you can check out the latest news surrounding Sipher by selecting NEWS on the site's main navigation menu or reading its socials for updates: Twitter, Discord, Facebook, Medium, Instagram and TikTok.
Sipher is highly anticipated, and made headlines for raising $6.8 million from venture capitalists in October 2021.
All the advertised features — co-op mode, crafting, resource gathering, dungeon crawling and PvP and PvE — are some hefty promises. Sipher is attempting to become a AAA game built on blockchain technology, but we'll have to see if it lives up to the hype.
While you can't play Sipher right now, you can buy characters on the secondary market. There are also dozens of other play-to-earn crypto games you can check out for the time being.
