Real stories: 3 shoppers that earn up to $300 in cash back and rewards at Sam’s Club
Sam’s Club offers plenty of ways to earn cash back and rewards for the vigilant shopper.
Sam’s Club has a reputation for low prices — but just how much can you earn in cash back? With a Sam's Club® Mastercard® and Plus Membership, you can earn more than $300 back. We reached out to three shoppers to get the lowdown on why they love Sam’s Club. Using one or both of the Plus Membership and Sam's Club® Mastercard®, these shoppers pulled in hundreds of dollars in cash back and rewards.
Andrew Cunningham, 34, founder of Daily Pest
- Shops at Sam’s Club: 4 times a month
- Average cash back and rewards earned: $360 — paid out according to the Sam's Club® Mastercard® and Plus Membership payout dates each year
- Favorite items to buy: Batteries, pies, snacks
Sam’s Club trips run in Andrew’s family — he first started visiting the club with his mother at 9 years old.
“As a kid and teenager, you can bet my favorite part about visiting was the pizza and the cafe,” says Andrew.”We would spend hours there just walking around and eating giant slices at the cafe.”
While Andrew loved scarfing down Sam’s Club pizza as a kid, these days he’s more into the bulk savings — an idea imparted to him by his mother while he was young.
Andrew notes he spends about $150 each week during his Sam’s Club trips. As a Plus Member, Andrew earns 2% in cash rewards* on his eligible in-club purchases plus 1% cash back on Sam’s Club purchases with the Sam's Club® Mastercard®.**
“One week when our local Sam’s club was closed for restructuring and renovations … we spent approximately $150 more throughout the month having to shop at Kroger instead.”
Laura Miner, 32, founder of Cook at Home Mom blog
- Shops at Sam’s Club: 4 times a month
- Average cash rewards earned: $192 — paid out according to the Plus Membership payout dates each year
- Favorite items to buy: Produce, meat, cleaning products
Food blogger Laura enjoys the quality produce and meat she can find at Sam’s Club, keeping her blog ammo flowing. As a mother of three, Laura is big on several of the time-saving features offered by Sam’s Club, like scan-and-go and online ordering.
“I like to order any oversized or heavy items from SamsClub.com and have them delivered directly to my doorstep. Shipping is usually free since I have a Plus Membership, but even if it weren’t, the prices are usually the best around and it makes my life easier.”
Though Laura isn’t a Sam's Club® Mastercard® cardholder, she is a Plus Member, which grants her free shipping on online Sam’s Club orders and 2% in cash rewards on her eligible in-store purchases on up to $500 per year.*
Considering Laura claims to spend $200 on average during her weekly Sam’s Club trip, her Sam’s Club cash rewards earnings are around $192 — paid out according to the Plus Membership schedule each year.
Chelsea Wells-Barrett, 27, PR support at Finder
- Shops at Sam’s Club: 3 times a month
- Average cash back and rewards earned: $270 — paid out according to the Sam's Club® Mastercard® and Plus Membership payout dates each year
- Favorite items to buy: Gas, produce, dairy
Back in the day, Chelsea and her husband were approved for the Sam's Club® Mastercard® during their days as a traveling music duo. As they traveled and played music throughout the South, they purchased their gas with the Sam's Club® Mastercard® to earn cash back.**
These days, Chelsea and her husband continue to shop at Sam’s Club, typically paying a visit three times per month. Including gas, Chelsea spends about $150 per trip.
“My husband eats a ton of fruit, and I use a healthy amount of butter and cheese while leading a low-carb lifestyle. Sam’s Club makes these items fit snug into my food budget by providing bulk options.”
And her purchases earn cash back to boot.
As a Sam’s Club Plus Member, she earns 2% in cash rewards on eligible in-club purchases.* And as a Sam's Club® Mastercard® holder as well, she earns 3% in cash back on Sam’s Club purchases (1% if she were only a Club Member).** The rewards for each program are subject to the terms, including different maximum rewards and payout dates. You can find the full details at the bottom of this page.
Chelsea also takes advantage of her Sam's Club® Mastercard® when she hits the pump. She earns 5% cash back at any eligible gas station (on the first $6,000 per year, then 1% after), though she prefers filling up at her local Sam’s Club Fuel Center for the convenience of it all.**
With Chelsea spending $150 per trip, the combination of the Plus Membership and Sam's Club® Mastercard® rewards means she averages $270 in cash back and rewards over her yearly in-club shopping trips and gas fill ups — paid out according to the card and membership payout dates each year.
